I came here to report this problem but it seems to be a festering issue. I made a video to demonstrate what's happening.

 

Emby Server: 3.3.1.0

iPad app: 1.4.9 / iOS v11.2.6

Ryzen 5 1600, nVidia GTX 1500Ti, hardware transcoding not enabled

 

Video was showing as Direct Play from the dashboard in both scenarios. Here is what I'm seeing:

Hum sorry Luke but the issue initially described in this post is not this buffering at all. The initial issue was that several times during the playback it jump 2-3 seconds backward, several times.

 

So I can’t confirm it will be solved with the 11.3.

Hello everyone. We had big issues in playback and Luke listened to us: he put a brand new video player in the iOS app! For whom who has access to the beta, you can test it.

 

I was explaining to Luke that I still have some issues with the playback that are a little big similar to what we had with the Embedded video player: the issues happened randomly, the FPS is dropping for several seconds... could you please help us test the app and confirm the issue on your side? This started happening to me in the last week or two.. it's NEVER happened before.. It doesn't matter what I use.. iphone, roku ( both beta and stable versions ) .. web .. it seemed to start after some recent updates that came through for emby server.. which has been rebooted.. 

The server is..

Windows 10 enterprise
4ghz AMD FX processor with 8 cores
32 gb of ram
7 terabytes of storage
An nvidia GTX 1080 Turbo with 8gb of ram
The roku is wired and on a gigabit connection no more than 5 feet away from the switch

The iphone is in the same room as the wireless router which is a  WZR-600DHP ( IEEE 802.11n/a/g/b )

 

My phone is an iphone 8+ with plenty of free space

EVERYTHING is current as far as versions/firmware.. I don't experience this using Playon media server or using Amazon/Netflix/Hulu .. this is Emby specific..

It's the same issue as described .. it doesn't happen ALL the time but when it does happen it's extremely annoying, and from the sound of it, this has been going on for a some people for quite a long time.. so I'm curious what the plan of action is? btw I have a lifetime subscription that I paid for.
