I would also like to see this feature.

In addition i would like this to integrate into the LDAP plugin.

It should be possible to map a emby user group to an LDAP or Active Directory group.

A group that is mapped to an LDAP group should sync with the LDAP group regularly.

If a user is added to the LDAP group it should also be added by the Emby group. If a user is removed from the LDAP group, it should also be removed from the Emby group.

And if adding User Groups is hard to implement, maybe we can have some sort of User Templates?

Even if it requires manual editing of preset files, I feel it could be some sort of a compromise.

Not sure how hard this would be to develop, just sharing the idea.

Please implement this. This would simplify things for user management. Or at the very least I would like the ability to set new user defaults. The fact that every new user is automatically a "manager" is cumbersome to always remember. At the very least @Luke please make it so "manager this server" is unchecked by default.

Hi, this isn't true. I just tested it now and the box is unchecked when setting up a new user.

Can you provide and example?

This is what I get for a new user in 4.7.6.0.

It is quite possible for you to use LDAP and current APIs, to do what you want.

There already exists a 'multi-select' on the users page, but it appears the only option is a bulk deletion of users.

If we could select users and then make a change that reflects to all selected users, that would save a lot of time.
For example, Home screen adjustments, library access, etc..

Have all the user settings applied at a group level instead of individually

Hi Luke,

Thanks for the reply. To be honest, it’s a bit frustrating that this question is still being asked after all these years.

User groups are one of the most basic features in any system with multiple users. What people (myself included) have been asking for is the ability to define permission sets once and assign them to multiple users. The current "copy from user" approach is inefficient and unmanageable, especially when changes need to be made across the board.

If I want to restrict access to a library or feature for several users, I have to go through each one manually – which is time-consuming, error-prone, and simply not scalable. A proper group system would turn this into a few clicks instead of a tedious routine.

This isn’t some obscure or niche feature request. It’s a fundamental need for anyone managing more than a handful of users.

Let me put it this way:
Imagine trying to run this very forum without a user group system – no moderator roles, no admin roles, just individual users each with manually assigned permissions. Sounds fun, right?

So instead of asking what we want to do with groups, the real question should be:
Why hasn’t this been implemented after 7 years of repeated community feedback?

It’s standard in every comparable media server solution – and frankly, it’s long overdue in Emby.

Thanks,
Patrick
