nwcatalyst 4 Posted February 27, 2017 Posted February 27, 2017 As discussed in this thread, would like to add HW encoding support for the ODROID C2.Another developer from the Hardkernel community has created a program that does the video encoding. We would just need team emby to create the code to re-pipe this into ffmpeg...The C2 would be an awesome and fully capable $40 emby box with this ability (for me, anyway... only looking to do a single 1080/720 stream). Thanks, 1
Luke 39612 Posted February 27, 2017 Posted February 27, 2017 So this development is just one-off for this specific device? is that correct?
clarkss12 299 Posted February 27, 2017 Posted February 27, 2017 (edited) Actually this would help a lot of arm based devices. I have Linux running on several on my low cost ARM devices, which I install both Plex and Emby servers. A couple of my Linux boxes are Amlogic S905 SoC based (same as the Odroid). One is based on the RK3288 SoC, and other one running linux on my Allwinner device. Also, running on 3 Windows 10 devices, one my desktop, one on a $100 Tronsmart Ara X5, and another on my new Vorke V2. Point being, your server will run on almost low power low cost devices, although no on the fly transcoding. HOWEVER, if you can get these low powered devices to hardware transcode on the fly, you will have a game changer. One of my videos showing my $40 Android box, running Ubuntu and Plex and Emby servers. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=rfbGaphtuUA Edited February 27, 2017 by clarkss12
nwcatalyst 4 Posted February 27, 2017 Author Posted February 27, 2017 I actually don't know, but I imagine that this project (as mentioned above) would be helpful in getting HW transcoding on other (amlogic, other ARM) devices, too....

Actually the benefit would be limited to Amlogic chips as the codec implementations are their hardware specific. Andy777
memeka 0 Posted March 20, 2017 Posted March 20, 2017 Just wanted to add here that hardware encoding in Emby is now working with Odroid XU4
