7illusions

Hi,

I've been working on a uwp port of the current app.

It's quite a bit left until it's finished, but I think it's getting close to testable state.

If anyone is interested in testing it, just give me your email and I'll add you to the testers group in HockeyApp (It's only me and Vicpa atm. :) and you'll get a invite via email

One important note, XB1 won't be testable until next week. I need to upgrade the Preview SDK first, plan on doing that during the weekend

I see there isn't a mobile app yet either, I can test that also when it comes available

I guess I'm having a brain freeze.

Got the cert installed, but having issues loading app on phone

Is this the correct file "Emby_1.0.38.0_x86_x64_arm_Debug.appxbundle"?

Says "There's a problem with this company's app"  "Contact your company's support person for help"

Edit: Nm, ignore me :)

Hadn't enabled developer mode on the device I guess?

Just installed on Windows 10 tablet. I know its still alpha so not sure what you've not implemented yet and what you know doesn't work but here are some observations.

The preferences screen can be a bit difficult to read depending on the backdrop being displayed at the time. I think to keep it consistent with other UWP apps it should just be a plain colour background, maybe with all options on one scrollable screen, if not a tabbed screen, see Explorer for YouTube.

What is the see more text supposed to do on the home screen, it currently doesn't do anything. If it's going to get a purpose then I'm afraid it looks quite awful stuck all the over to the right on its own in blue font colour.

I think the amount of actor/crew images displayed on the  movie details screen is a bit excessive. If your meta data lists a load of actors and crew it just becomes a endless scroll of circles. For those missing an image you should implement the default image from the Microsoft Film and TV app and used elsewhere by Microsoft as a default person image. I think chapter images should be included before actor images and implement a list of suggested movies. Could also do with some media info, resolution, audio channels etc. The trailers button doesn't work.

When going to the main movies page the first screen to open was resume, I had no items to resume so this page shouldn't be displayed and it should have took me to latest.

I'll leave it there for now, why I mess with TV views.

Hi

I agree.."I think the amount of actor/crew images displayed on the  movie details screen is a bit excessive.".... But that is server driven at the moment. If you check the same movie in the web for instance all those people show up.

There has been some feature requests for the server to limit the types. You can restrict downloading metadata for types but can't restrict display, doesn't make a lot of sense to me. But it is what it is.

Maybe at some point a custom setting can be added in the app?

As this is a UWP effort. It is great if you can preference comment with device.

Vicpa, are we wanting to comment here, or in HA?  I feel like there are a lot of things I can start with, but I know how thorough you are so I don't want to repeat everything you may have already mentioned :)

Hi,

I would put them here at least for now. As you can tell it is early alpha. I have been commenting on base functionality primarily so far. As 7 wanted to get started on that.

Besides I miss stuff :).  I am going to try to consolidate a list which I will post. That will cut down own duplication. The variety of device types, probably lends to that approach.

make sense? I am sure 7 is open to other methods.

  2. some buttons are not working
  3.
  4. Obviously some views are still under development :)
  5.

Need.... but don't limit your comment to Just some things I can't test.

playback testing!! Particularly HDMI out to receiver. Been having some issues but maybe my setup.

Logon scenarios... Like Connect.

The app can run in parallel in to the current app.

basic playback working for video and audio.

I put a couple of lists on the HA site but I don't seem to be able to pull up the past feedback on that site so hopefully you can grab it from there. I'll post future bg reports here.

btw, the circles for the actors looks terrible. All the soure images are portrait aspect ratio pictures and when you make circles out of them you seem to be center cropping so now most people have part of their head cut off. I get that a lot of sites/apps are using circles for profile images and stuff but almost all of the time the source images for those were square before so they don't look bad. I'd highly recommend not doing the circle thing for actors in this app as we have no control of the source images (unless someone is really going to go and manually grab and crop and image for every actor in their collection)

I noticed this the other day.  You have to run the loopback program again too if you're testing the app on the same machine as the server

Hi All

@@7illusions does the Hockey app automatically send crash reports? If it can maybe if the testers agree it can be turned on.

7, in .40 there is still an issue with multiple movie libraries. At least now I can click on my other one but it loads the tab/page that was last used for whatever movie library was last loaded (not that huge a deal). More importantly it doesn't seem to refresh the page and instead it just displays a blank page until you navigate to a different tab and then back.

For instance, I have two movie libraries, "movies" and "shorts". I click Movies, click All. All my movies are listed. I click Shorts. All is selected but the page is blank. I click Recent then All and now all the shorts are listed.

Actor portraits look 1000% better :)  As do the TV show posters.

This is a more general item but I think anytime you show a poster, background, etc (when used to represent a movie, tv show, episode, etc.) should have a black background with the image centered in it. This will fix the display issue with images that are smaller then expected.

Best example (at least in my library) is with 4x3 aspect ratio TV episodes. I am sure this can/will occur in other places. When the episode is shown as a background/screenshot (not sure what Emby calls it) it is left aligned in a transparent box. What happens is that the text that runs past the end of the 4x3 image is white on a light gray background and hard to read. Black not only makes it easier to read the text but mimics the letterboxing that you would see on the TV so I believe it would look good.

Yes, it sends it automatically.

When it crashes I get a nice little stacktrace and all. :)
