[music] turn off "download metadata from the internet" for music albums only

I am a heavy MusicBrainz user and I have two issues with how MBS is populating metadata for music albums:

  • It is not using the MusicBrainz ID from the ID3 tag information in the local files which are accurate because I have checked them. It is querying the MusicBrainz database based on the directory name and pulling the wrong information.
  • I have a lot of albums which are not in MusicBrainz and have not imported them into MBS for fear of what it will do.

The artist metadata works really well so I would like to leave that running but I would like MBS to collect all information on albums and tracks from the local files.

So is it possible to turn off "download metadata from the internet" for music albums only?

This is already being worked on and will be part of one of the next releases. I am in the same situation as you are and also like to use information from my tags.

Thanks for the quick response, I'll wait patiently.  ;)

Id like to start embedding Musicbrainz ids in the tags, Just never knew what field to populate. If its being worked on ill happily wait.

@@RaxPower, I doubt there are plans to edit the metadata in the ID3 tags. MB makes a point of never modifying files like that. What is being worked on is the reading of the MucicBrainz ID3 tags (if they exist) in the files rather than querying the MusicBrainz database based on the directory name the files are held in.

If you want to embed the MusicBrainz ID in the ID3 tag there are plenty of tools that will do it including Picard (cross platform) and Mp3tag (Windows only).

I probably should have been more clear with that. Say i edit the tags outside of mediabrowser, what would be the best id3 tag field to populate (if/when reading MusicBrainz from the tags is supported) :)

Picard puts the following tags into id3:

MUSICBRAINZ ALBUM ARTIST ID

MUSICBRAINZ ALBUM ID

MUSICBRAINZ ALBUM RELEASE COUNTRY

MUSICBRAINZ ALBUM STATUS

MUSICBRAINZ ALBUM TYPE

MUSICBRAINZ ARTIST ID

MUSICBRAINZ RELEASE GROUP ID

MUSICBRAINZ_TRACKID

I would suspect adding the MUSICBRAINZ ALBUM ID would be sufficient future-planning.  Picard is a pretty useful tool, you could just download it and let it do the ID-adding for you then you wouldn't have to worry about which field to use.
