arrbee99 1560
Don't know if this is the correct forum, but anyway.... Using Emby to send video to a 1st gen FireTV box (not stick) via gigabit ethernet. Emby will direct play most stuff (up to 720p I think) but transcodes uncompressed bluray MKV rips. Would anyone happen to know if the 2nd gen FireTV will direct play this high bit rate stuff as well. So if I upgrade would it be a waste of money or not ?
ebr 14925
Format support will be identical but the 2nd gen is faster and has a noticeably sharper display. All the Fire boxes only claim to support 20Mb/s but we allow you to set the limit higher than that.
arrbee99 1560
So being faster doesn't necessarily mean it can cope with higher bitrates than the 1st gen. I guess I could try setting the bitrate to higher than 20 and seeing if it direct plays with my existing FireTV. Do I set it on the server somewhere or on the FireTV ? ebr 14925
If you haven't messed with it then the Fire is probably already set to Auto which is probably coming out higher than 20 anywhere. The setting is in the app.
arrbee99 1560
Tried upping the bitrate to 40 and the max resolution to all from 720. Didn't work. Pity but I'll survive. BTW I guess there's no way to force an app update, mines still on .49, shouldn't it be up to .76 by now ?

arrbee99 1560
Thanks, eventually occurred to look under Apps on the FTV and it said update available, so I did. Duh.
