sfatula 196 Posted January 7, 2019 Posted January 7, 2019 Thumbnails would be wonderful. I would think there has to be some way to use the bif files and not have to extract thumbnails twice.
Deathmo 4 Posted January 8, 2019 Posted January 8, 2019 (edited) What Emby app are you using that is not triggering HDR? Server 3.6.0.84 Emby App 1.6.72g Might be related to this. https://emby.media/community/index.php?/topic/60362-shield-atv-hdr/page-1 Edited January 8, 2019 by Deathmo
Luke 40136 Posted January 8, 2019 Posted January 8, 2019 Yes, please post in that topic about that particular issue. Thanks !
Karl Blixt 8 Posted January 9, 2020 Posted January 9, 2020 (edited) I'm very happy that this got implemented. Its really a major step towards closing the gap between emby and plex. However, it seems that emby doesn't cache any thumbnails until the client request the specific thumbnails. This makes it feel clunky to scrub until you've scrubbed enough throughout the movie to cache all the thumbnails. This doesn't appear to be an issue on plex as it seems that they prefetch all the thumbnails. Would it be possible to cache all thumbnails on the client while the media is playing? Hopefully it could be implemented such that the needed video gets downloaded first but once it have built up a small buffer of say 2-5 seconds it would prioritize prefetching and caching all the thumbnails associated with that movie. Other than this emby usually does a way better job than plex in prefetching library items and keeping them in cache. Thanks for the excellent development and community interaction. Red5ive 30 Posted January 9, 2020 Posted January 9, 2020 Not seen this is Theater. Did it make its way there yet or is it still 'coming soon'?

Last time I used Plex and checked this out (~2 weeks ago), Plex still made individual requests to the server for fetching preview thumbnails. I actually made a request for something similar to what you requested, but using a technique called "skip sheets" or "thumbnail sheets" as softworkz called them. You can check out that post here: https://emby.media/community/index.php?/topic/76209-visual-seeking-improvements/

This feature is most definitely complete and working in theater, you most likely just did not enable "Chapter image extraction" in your library settings and executed the task called "Preview image extraction". Keep in mind that doing this could take anywhere from a couple hours to a couple days depending on the interval you choose for extracting thumbnails, how big your library is, and how good your server CPU is.
Karl Blixt 8 Posted January 9, 2020 Posted January 9, 2020 (edited) @@rechigo ignore this post, I thought you replied to my post. Ive enabled thumbnail image extraction and confirmed that the needed .bif file exists for the movie I do my testing on. And while thumbnail scrubbing works even on my poor connection. The thumbnail is black for a second or so before properly loading the image. This is no longer an issue once you've allready scrubbed an image then uppon rescrubbing that part of the time line loads the image instantly. Edited January 9, 2020 by Karl Blixt
Luke 40136 Posted January 9, 2020 Posted January 9, 2020 It's not in Theater yet in TV mode for use with a remote control, but it's there in mobile and desktop layouts just like the web app. The TV version is something that still needs to be developed. 1
