A Problem with People

I appreciate that Emby now has its own fetchers to update things like movies, shows, and people, but I am having a regular issue with people fetching - and unfortunately it has been this way for a long while so I cannot say when it began.

Basically what happens is a person is added to the library and the fetcher attempts to match it with a lookup. But what happens is it seems to "guess" at some entries and then i have to search through the library to find who it guessed wrong. i.e. "James Pax" was matched to "James Paxton" - two very different people.

Can you please change the lookup so that if it is not an exact match, it does not associate to the wrong person? Additionally (if possible) it would be awesome if a message log could be generated and viewable in the web client (similar to how messages are announced) that records when a match failed so we can edit/match the correct person manually.

Thanks!

I have the same problem, for this reason I have disabled the "Refresh People" task. The mismatch is an issue, but the bigger issue is that the spelling of the 2 names are different. The Refresh People task will change the name field to something different as the ImagesByName folder. In your example you will have a folder “James Pax” but the name of person in the person.xml file will be “James Paxton”. The end result is that the person will disappear from the movie profile. The name field of a person should be non-changeable, the only result by changing this field is that the link movie is broken.

I had this same issue and it was aggravating. I finally figured it out and posted about it here a while ago.

Not sure I agree that the person name should be non-changeable. Plex follows that mantra and is exactly why I don't use it. I have movies that DON'T appear in any database that Emby or Plex can scan. Adding a person to a movie as I see fit is important.

Emby thinks it knows the difference between one actor and another even though the name was entered manually is an issue. If that's the way it is supposed to work then we should have the ability to shut off look ups.

That is not what I mean with making the person name field non-changeable. It's the field in a person's profile not in a movie profile. Being able to manually add persons to a movie profile is critical and is also a reason I am not using Plex (or better never tested Plex when I read on there forums that you couldn't edit the cast list)
