EduardoSantos 40 Posted February 4, 2015 Posted February 4, 2015 Hi, Though my MediaBrowser app on Roku is set to 20.0Mbps, any movies with bitrate above 14 get transcoded. Is this the expected behavior? What would be the maximum bitrate supported by Roku direct play? I have browsed the forum but did not find any mention of transcoding due to this scenario. As a test I joined audio streams of the suspect movie files (the ones with higher bitrates) to low video bitrates and they got played directly. Also as a test I extracted the audio streams and left only the high bitrate video streams: movies get transcoded. I am running app version 1.78 and server version 3.0.5490.2. Does anybody confirm this behavior?
Luke 38502 Posted February 4, 2015 Posted February 4, 2015 there are other reasons why it may transcode...container, audio, ref frames, anamorphic, resolution, etc.
Allan Cameron 40 Posted February 4, 2015 Posted February 4, 2015 I agree with Luke, I have movies that are 20Mbps and they don't transcode on my Roku 3. All my movies are Mp4 H264 with AAC audio.
EduardoSantos 40 Posted February 4, 2015 Author Posted February 4, 2015 (edited) Luke, Thanks for the quick answer. But let me see if I got it right: video bitrates above 14.0 would be supported on roku IF other aspects were ok. Is that correct? Would you see any aspect on the mediainfo of such a file that would cause the transcode? Luke 38502 Posted February 4, 2015 Posted February 4, 2015 if you install the zip file you can get a roku log to find out why exactly. instructions are in the roku wiki section.
Happy2Play 9060 Posted February 4, 2015 Posted February 4, 2015 You total bit rate is higher then set max bit rate. Taxa de Bits Total : 20.4 Mbps
Happy2Play 9060 Posted February 5, 2015 Posted February 5, 2015 @@EduardoSantos - Since Max Bit rate have been expanded have you tried changing it to 30 Mbps in preferences?
EduardoSantos 40 Posted February 5, 2015 Author Posted February 5, 2015 Ok! Thanks everybody. I'll check the other files...
EduardoSantos 40 Posted February 5, 2015 Author Posted February 5, 2015 (edited) @@EduardoSantos - Since Max Bit rate have been expanded have you tried changing it to 30 Mbps in preferences I think this option will only be available on the new app version (1.79). I will wait to see if it does the trick... Edited February 5, 2015 by EduardoSantos
EduardoSantos 40 Posted February 28, 2015 Author Posted February 28, 2015 It worked! It plays directly with the new 30mbps config. Thanks
farside847 39 Posted March 11, 2015 Posted March 11, 2015 Amazing that this little box with MB can play 20mbps video. Nice!
