Exactly, that's what I want—an option for the selection to apply to all videos.

This is planned for the next wave of updates.

The dynamic crop feature aims to address all cases where the regular "Auto" fit mode would lead to have black bars at both top-bottom and left-right, depending on the current video output area. It works dynamically and follows resizing of the app in windowed mode.
In full-screen mode, it's the same: It eliminates black bars, so you have them either at top-bottom or left-right - but not both. The resolution of the screen is the reference for this, as it is taken as the output area of your display. If your display resolution is not representing the desired output area, then yes - you need to change it.

The autocrop script has various modes of operation, but by default it aims to "detect" the aspect ratio of the content video and then locks in to it. You can also define this up-front (or define a number of possible ratios from which it should try to choose one.
On the way to detect this, it can switch around a number of times until "it is sure" about it. You can also configure it to keep switching dynamically, but this is always delayed (until "it is sure") and the switching can be quite annoying.

The dynamic crop feature in the Emby Windows app works differently:

  • It is configuration-free
  • It doesn't try to lock-in to a certain aspect ratio and always adapts dynamically
  • It dynamically adapts to the current output window size
  • Adaption is happening INSTANTLY, it doesn't have any delay, waiting "to be sure"
This is made possible by additional image analysis and plausibility checks

When you want to compare, try a movie with lots of ratio changes (e.g. 'Oppenheimer')

Softworkz, your black magic works😈

Tested with a custom 3840 x 1634 resolution on top gun maverick and dynamic fit, switches back and forth between aspect ratios instantly, no delay.

For those with 2.35:1 screens and movies with multiple aspect ratios this is the way.

The emby interface also works great @ 2.35:1

@softworkzI have only seen real time aspect ratio changes like your dynamic fit implementation on a YouTube video of Epsons latest laser projectors and Kaleidescape’s One Strato V player demo’ing topgun maverick.

Kaleidescape is a high end setup, Emby a fraction of the price.

Kaleidescape has a movie store where Emby users have their own.

Madvr envy is also an option for video processing and auto aspect ratio changing but mpv can do whatever madvr can.

If Emby push forward with audiophile upgrades and generiq’s advanced video settings it will take the windows app to the next level.

I’ll post a video of your black magic dynamic fit with topgun maverick demo when I get a sec.

Kaleidoscape is still in business? They died once and I thought they'd die again. They did have a very cool system, years ago. A true home theater system. I liked their movie title collage.

Yes still in business if you can afford one.

Don’t think their player supports aspect ratio changes on scope screens sorry but madvr envy can…and emby of course.

I once worked on a system that had it integrated. I was installing satellite TV which needed to be integrated. The customer showed me the Kaleidoscape system he had. It was very cool. He bought the vault. He paid for the service that allowed him to watch movies that were in the Theater. They'd get downloaded to the vault, and then he could watch them when he wanted. In any room in the house (there were many rooms). Needles to say, he was wealthy. A super nice guy, too. That was a fun job. Racks in the basement feeding the whole house. I loved that stuff.

Sounds like good fun.

We’re lucky these days theater releases and web streaming aren’t too far apart.

I remember bootleg Batman vhs tapes copy of a copy of a copy while still at the movies back in the day.

Things have sure changed!

Looks just like the old emby WMC in horizontal mode lol.

I’m sure Softworkz could replicate but make it a windows exclusive feature

The cover spacing settings could be improved, wmc was great, I sometimes consider going back and using mpv as an external player.

wmc emby also showed recently played with external players

I used the Media Browser app, which few people remember or knew existed. I may still have it somewhere.

Oh no! Kaleidascape is considerably better.

The UI is Luke's arena.

It looks better - but is it really more useful?

That's just the wall. It has a lot more functionality. That guy showed me a lot of what it could do. I was very impressed. The whole operation was seamless. That was a long time ago. I imagine they've developed it considerably more since then.

At $3,995 and I assume that’s US$ I think I’ll struggle on with emby lol.

The poster wall does look cool from the YouTube videos.
