I keep a separate spreadsheet of my video collection with info about each title as a sort of a "library card catalogue".  After migrating from Video Station to Emby, I am sitting down to reconcile the data, make sure all the movies are correctly identified & have the proper metadata.  Fortunately, most of this happened automatically.  However, some movies listed in my spreadsheet were not found in Emby.  I used File Station on my NAS to locate the actual files.  Some WERE simply missing (a different problem), however some were still present in the video indexed folder Emby has access to, but don't show up in the video listings anywhere, nor can they be found using the Emby Search function.

I found that some of them had been mis-identified:  those I accidentally found during a manual perusal of the collection, noticing some titles that I knew I didn't have.  When I edited their metadata, I could see the actual file name(s).  I went to my spreadsheet, copied the IMDB identifier (which I had fortunately saved as part of the data), then used that in the Emby Identify Function, and was able to correctly Identify those movies.

However, I am still finding movies in the spreadsheet that are not present in Emby, but the movie files ARE found in the video indexed folder using File Station.  I tried moving the files to a different shared folder on my NAS (NOT indexed for Emby) waiting about a minute for Emby to "notice" them missing, then moved them back to the appropriate folder, to be recognized as new additions.  However, they still don't show up: in Latest Additions, in movies sorted by date added, nor in the search function.  Having had issues with the automatic indexing in the past, I even went to Settings>Libraries>Scan Library Files (which HAS brought new additions immediately into the listings for other movies before).  So far, the 2 movies I moved out & back still are not showing up in listings or search despite having re-scanned the library twice (once for each).  I also rechecked after an hour or so, to make sure they are still not showing up.

Is there a way to search Emby for the actual file names, instead of the titles they may be recognized as?  If I was able to find the files this way, I could re-identify them.

If the file is present in the video indexed folder (as confirmed by File Station), and I ran Re-Scan Library Files, how can they not be in any Emby listings?  They should at least be in the Latest Additions section, or show up sorted by Date Added, regardless of how they are identified, right?  I can only assume that they are still not recognized & added by Emby during the Library Files re-scan, but why?  I included my latest server log file, just in case it might be helpful.

No not that I know of.

The most you can do is change to table view, enable filename column and compare title to filename.

Otherwise, a database guru would have to come up with a query to compare them.

You could try with this tool.

Thank you for your suggestions.

1)  @Happy2Play Table View is helpful, and would allow a visual comparison of title vs. file name (easier than having to open the title to edit the metadata to see it).  This will be a great option when I know which titles to focus on, or when just doing a general browse to compare at a glance

2)  @NeminemI tried the Dup-Finder.  I had difficulties at first (posted in that forum thread), but eventually got it to run.  I could not find any mis-identified movies, though this may just mean I already sorted out all the mis-identified movies.  It did NOT find the 2 movies present in File Station, but not present in Emby.

I am still at a loss to explain the 2 movies that are simply not acknowledged by Emby.  To see if increasing the time they were OUT of the collection might make a difference, I tried moving them to a non-indexed folder again, renamed them to include the release date (in the hopes that changing the file name might prompt new recognition), added a newly recorded movie & a new TV Show Episode to the mix (to test whether the issue is unique to those 2 movie files), then I re-scanned the library files (to "force" Emby to recognize they were gone).  I waited overnight & moved them all back into their appropriate indexed folders the next morning.

An hour or so after moving them, I checked Emby & none of the movies were automatically recognized (NONE of them showed up in Recents), though the TV show episode  WAS automatically recognized & properly identified.  I then Re-Scanned the library files.  I waited about 15 minutes, then re-checked Emby.  The New movie showed up in Recents properly identified, but the other 2 movies are still not being recognized, or even acknowledged to exist in Emby, despite being in the same, properly indexed folder!

The movie titles not being recognized are "Mash (1970)" and "Jiang Zia (2020)".  They ARE present in the proper indexed folder in File Station, but still do not appear either in Recents on the home page or under movies sorted by Date Added in Emby.  They were not mis-identified, they simply do not show up anywhere (a different problem from the question I posted).  Running Dup-Finder after re-scanning still shows the same 17 duplicates that it did before adding the new movies (live vs. animated & original vs. remake, etc).

This is just weird.  Why would it recognize one movie, but not the others, even after renaming them?  And, why did it automatically index the TV show, but require a re-scan for the movies?  Any ideas or suggestions?  I included the server logs for the past 2 days, in case they might be helpful.

@NeminemOK.  I added the ID # to the file name for Jiang Zia, as you recommended.  I don't normally keep each movie in a separate folder & have over 2000 movies that added to the single movie folder without problems.  However, as an experiment, I made a separate folder for MASH using the naming convention you recommended above.  Neither were automatically acknowledged in Recents, nor were they acknowledged after a library re-scan.  This is quite frustrating!  Usually, a movie is at least acknowledged by Emby & displayed as SOMETHING, even if mis-identified.  These don't seem to be acknowledged at all.

In responding to another issue, in a discussion with another user, I scanned my log file, and I saw references that showed the movies were being deleted from the database.  If they are being deleted, then they must have been added at some point.  If they were added (and deleted when removed from the indexed folder) why are they not being displayed?  I am uploading the log file in case it might be helpful.

HI, what are you referring to exactly?

The only advice I can give you is follow the Movie Naming

and for good measure add {TmdbId-635389} to folders and filename.

That way you will help Emby, help you identify movies.

@LukeI was having a discussion with FrostBite about a post he made regarding fixing an RTM failure using a Synology task with a script he wrote to increase the number of "watches".  Part of that discussion involved me looking through my most recent Emby Log (uploaded earlier in this thread, for your reference).  In searching through that log for information relevant to our conversation, I noticed that at least one of the movies in question above was referenced as having been removed from the Emby database (when I moved the file out of the indexed folder using File Station on my NAS).

I reasoned that if the movie had to be removed from the database when it was moved out of the indexed folder, then it must have been added to the database at some point earlier.  If it was added, then it remains a mystery as to why it would not be displayed under "Recents" on the main home page, or show up on the Movies screen when sorted by Date Added, even if it was mis-identified.  This question was further complicated when I added another new movie at the same time that WAS acknowledged, correctly identified and displayed in the listings appropriately (Touching the Void).

I don't understand why only these 2 movies are being "ignored" despite including the release date & tmdbid in the name as Neminem had suggested.  I moved them out, renamed them, moved them back in & re-scanned the library files several times.

Additionally, movies are not being automatically added (RTM failure?), though the TV episode I added WAS automatically recognized.  My conversation with FrostBite revealed that it is not an INOTIFY failure, so his script is not part of this picture.

I would like to rectify the error: Movies are not being added/displayed until I run a manual Re-Scan Library from SETTINGS>LIBRARY.  Maybe spin this off as a separate thread?  I asked this question before, but when FrostBite's script seemed to solve the problem, I stopped posting there.  Now it seems like the automatic recognition issue & the problem of "ignored" movies may be related?

I'm sure they were recognized, but possibly as something else. For example, looking at your first log:

2024-12-24 13:19:53.827 Info LibraryMonitor: Legend of Deification (/volume1/video/All Other Movies/Jiang Zia.mp4) will be refreshed.

So we can see that this title was recognized as Legend of Deification.

One helpful tool at your disposal is to view the library using table view, and then add the filename column. You can even sort on it. This will help you find it quickly.

OK!  My problem was that I was looking in Recents, assuming that since I had removed it from the indexed folder then moved it back, that it MUST show up under Recents because the Date Added would be the more recent date I moved it back into the folder.  However, that is obviously not the case, though I don't know why.  If a file is removed from the database, how can its original Date Added not be replaced when it is added back?

Regardless of the answer to that question, we have solved the mystery of why I couldn't find the movies.  It wasn't Emby ignoring them, it was me looking in the wrong place due to an incorrect assumption. 😜  So, that "mystery" is solved.  Thank you, and thanx for the strategies for future "incidents"

The other question still remains:  Why are movies not being recognized automatically (but TV shows ARE automatically recognized).  This is not the INOTIFY issue (I instituted JackFrost's task w/scripting).  Are there any other avenues we can explore to find out why this is happening?

Hi, have you checked the date added value in the metadata editor as well as read the help text underneath it?

Actually, I hadn't even looked at the Date Added at all.  I assumed it was not changed when it didn't appear under Recents on the home page or at the top of the movies list when sorted by Date Added.  However, at your suggestion, I went to the metadata of both movies I couldn't find before & the new movie I added as a "control" & took screen shots of the added date.  The new movie has yesterday's date, but the 2 other movies still have older dates - which would keep them from showing up in Recents.

Theoretically, this should not be an ongoing problem: How many times will I need to delete & re-add a movie?  However, this may represent a "bug" and might be worth having the programmers take a look into it.

Another suggestion:  The title of MASH is "officially" M*A*S*H, but I set the SORT title to just MASH.  MASH could not could not be found using Search, which suggests that SEARCH only looks at the official title.  Do you think it might be valuable to include the SORT title in the search function?  (BTW, I think it's brilliant that you offer a sort title field in the metadata).

BTW, The user with the INOTIFY solution was FrostByte, not JackFrost (my error.  It sucks to get older).

I think I found the answer to my question (which would obviate the need to explore for a bug):

As I was looking at the screenshots I sent, I noticed that below the Date Added it said I could configure the way Date Added is determined.  When I went to the Library Settings, I saw that I could choose Date File Created OR Date Scanned into Library.  Of course, I had Date Created selected.  I originally selected that because I added about 1800 movies when I transitioned to Emby from Video Station, and wanted the original date added order to be preserved.  I didn't think about that when dealing with this issue.  Once again, my error was based on an incorrect assumption. 😜

Sorry to have taken up so much of your time for my mistake(s), but thank you for pointing out the error of my ways.
