Papiscze 1 Posted November 21, 2024 Posted November 21, 2024 Hello, everyone, I recently discovered TitanOS, a new Linux-based operating system (as described in their documentation) that already supports applications like Plex. I wanted to ask if there are future plans to develop a standalone Emby application for TitanOS? It seems like it would be a great addition for multimedia users. I currently have to use DLNA, but this is not very convenient as a standalone app. Thank you in advance https://docs.titanos.tv/introduction 1

That way you do not have to to deal with the issues/problems of the TV's clunky operating system. It is, for many of the clients, a very cheap solution and you will have a truly flexible client. I, just recently, had to replace my TV and the best price to performance TV I found was also a "smart" TV. I tested the TV's smarts and found them quite dumb and very slow so i hooked up my Roku, my Fire TV and my Shield TV and now I have a TV that actually performs very well and Is a lot smarter than the TV was before my upgrades. 1

Hi, I personally am a young person so i have no problem with technology. I use LG TV, which is smart, has a rich app store, and i use Xiaomi's TV Stick when travelling and in hotels, where smart TVs are not or cannot download various apps. But we have to also consider the other group of people here and that is for example elderly parents who may not be very "friendly" with technology. My mom used an old CRT TV until recently, where she only had one remote to control the TV. If I connected my Xiaomi TV stick, for example, to her TV, it would be an extra controller and she would even have to learn how to switch the input port on the TV in a "complicated" way, use the second controller to go through the home page, find Emby. I think for "older people" a pre-installed app directly on the TV is easier. Moreover, I think this new OS for philips tv because it is new will be used a lot in the future for philips tv. 2 hours ago, Luke said: We should be able to support this easily. Thank u.

Do not even try to use age as an excuse for being so technically naïve that simply using something like a Fire stick or a Roku is hard. I am 77 years old and i do not regularly use any Android device but I can use them and even configure them pretty well. Plus the Roku is so simple that my Uncle, at 96, has zero problem. If people cannot use technology that simple the they should stick with the most basic devices like TVs with little or no smarts and just watch the mind numbing drivel that regular TV provides. On the other hand I have never met an older person that was not deep in dementia that could not master the simple use of many streaming devices. I also have a neighbor that is close to turning 100 that mastered the Roku i gave her in about 3 or four days. There is a big difference between not being able to use something and not being willing to try. Smart TVs are not the answer to technical phobia either as they are just as complex as using most separate boxes. The answer is learning to use what is available and if a given TV does not have Emby and the user wants Emby then any one of the simple stand alone boxes becomes the best solution quite easily. I do not think that Emby needs to try to support every OS that people come up with because they already support plenty of different devices and different operating systems. Adding support for more diverts needed resources to an unneeded function. But it is Emby's property we are discussing and they can do as they want and support what they choose. I just wish they would concentrate on their core functionality and avoid expansion until the core is at the stage were maintenance is all that is needed. 1
muiz 11 Posted November 23, 2024 Posted November 23, 2024 Would be nice to have Emby on Titan OS https://docs.titanos.tv/devviewinstall 1
Robert33 0 Posted January 11 Posted January 11 Adding a +1 to this. The emby app looks amazing on my desktop. If I load via the web browser on the tv it also is great. On my Phillips I don't see an emby app. I'm a tv newb. Also the dlna doesn't seem to bring up even a default 'network' app on the home screen, I need to access via back menus which is too confusing for my kids who can barely read :D I tried running via the emby app on my phone then casting to the tv, which got as far as the emby logo and 'ready to cast'.. but then nothing more. A native app somehow on the titan would be amazing. Happy to chip in some late night pizza money if it helps a bit.
visproduction 208 Posted January 11 Posted January 11 Much easier fix is to get one of these. https://www.walmart.com/ip/onn-Google-TV-4K-Streaming-Box-New-2023-4K-UHD-Resolution/2835618394 My TV shows up for all Emby casts. FYI: Firestick is much more finicky to set up and seems to always disappear from casting options.
