zenobit06 5 Posted July 28, 2024 Posted July 28, 2024 (edited) Hi guys, I have two questions: 1. Where can I find the playlists in the Emby server folder (version 4.8.8.0 under macOS Monterey 12.7.5)? 2. I have created playlists in the Apple Music desktop player from the same music collection that Emby also accesses. I would like to export these lists in xml format and then insert them into the Emby folder for playlists. Does this work and will Emby load the lists after the next start? Thank you in advance for the support. zenobit06 Edited July 28, 2024 by zenobit06 text-formating problems
zenobit06 5 Posted July 28, 2024 Author Posted July 28, 2024 Tried my best to find an answer in the support area, but the only topic about playlists which I found seem to be very old and does not apply to Emby Server Version 4.6 and later. Hope you can help.

Hi, this will not work, but maybe if you export them as m3u8 it will. 1

Emby no longer uses xml playlists and moved to m3u. 8 hours ago, zenobit06 said: Does this work and will Emby load the lists after the next start? You will have to use playlists folder as userplaylists is Emby user drive and controlled per db linked permissions. I guess you can make a dummy/custom one in Emby then manipulate in the userplaylists folder. 1 hour ago, zenobit06 said: Tried my best to find an answer in the support area, but the only topic about playlists which I found seem to be very old and does not apply to Emby Server Version 4.6 and later. Will probably need to see the server log showing that process. I would enable debug logging and create a new playlist and post the server log with that specific example. But only guess would be permissions but that would be a bigger issue if Emby can not write to its own folders.

Unfortunately, my limited knowledge as a technical layman is not sufficient to perform these tasks (...viewing the server log and enabling debug logging). I wouldn't even know where to start and there is a risk that I will make mistakes that will lead to further problems.
Luke 39294 Posted July 29, 2024 Posted July 29, 2024 HI, the folder should get created if you use the web app to create a new playlist.

Happy2Play 9280 Posted July 30, 2024 Posted July 30, 2024 Can you create another one and provide that example and server log so we can see the requests in the log. But to a point sounds like permissions issues but just a guess.

But to a point sounds like permissions issues but just a guess. 1. Deleted old playlists 2. Restarted emby server 3. Created a new playlist with 5 songs 4. Same result: emby server folder on Mac mini does not show any "playlists" or "user playlists" in the data folder. I had to guess where to find the "server log", because as I said, I'm a technical layman. Perhaps "server log" is the same as "protocols"?
Happy2Play 9280 Posted July 31, 2024 Posted July 31, 2024 Can you post the server log. What was the name of the playlist?

You need to download the log from the dashboard click on first log or go to the log folder shown in your images and get the server log and attach here But the How to report a problem link tells you how also. Happy2Play 9280 Posted July 31, 2024 Posted July 31, 2024 (edited) So you created a Punk-Rock playlist correct? 2024-07-31 09:45:39.257 Info App: Saving playlist file /Users/gerdes/.config/emby-server/data/userplaylists/Punk-Rock [playlist]/Punk-Rock.m3u 2024-07-31 09:45:44.578 Info App: Saving playlist file /Users/gerdes/.config/emby-server/data/userplaylists/Trance [playlist]/Trance.m3u 2024-07-31 09:45:44.778 Info App: Saving playlist file /Users/gerdes/.config/emby-server/data/userplaylists/Punk-Rock [playlist]/Punk-Rock.m3u 2024-07-31 09:45:44.950 Info App: Saving playlist file /Users/gerdes/.config/emby-server/data/userplaylists/Testlist [playlist]/Testlist.m3u Looks like it is shown in navdrawer, is it shown in Playlists library? But have no idea why you would not see it in folder and dev may have to comment a log clearly shows it created. Edited July 31, 2024 by Happy2Play

Happy2Play 9280 Posted July 31, 2024 Posted July 31, 2024 No idea minus not looking in correct User folder. As the log shows them being written.

The UI shows the playlist and items you added to it correct? I noticed two oddities that make no sense to me as a layman: 1. The file path of the "data" folder is not exactly the same in the log as it is on the computer. The log path contains a /.config / that is missing from the Mac mini path. 2. The date display of the emby server on the Mac mini shows no changes in the last two to three days, even though I only created a new playlist (punk rock) today (July 31st). This is also shown in the log.
GrimReaper 3881 Posted July 31, 2024 Posted July 31, 2024 Not a Mac user, but as I understand it, .config is a hidden folder created under certain scenarios. Quote In the go menu in finder you can type ‘ ~/.config/Emby-server’ and it will take you to that hidden location 2 1

I was questioning that /data folder with database you keep showing as they are all closed databases. 2
