FatherSaint 11 Posted December 29, 2023 Posted December 29, 2023 Emby Premiere : Roku 4 Ultra : HTPC Emby will sometimes mark a TV show as Watched and set up the next one so that you just have to click Play to proceed. More often than not, Emby marks the episode as Watched, but you have to arrow down and manually select the next episode and then click Play. This is obviously not a big deal, but I wonder if there is some kind of configuration or settings that are responsible for this. For example, ALL of the Chicago universe requires that we down-arrow to the next episode and choose it, where Reservation Dogs DID mark the episodes watched and queue the next one for play until I got to S02E06 - now I have to arrow-down and choose the next one. This makes me think that the "issue" is in the video, which is exclusively MP4 or MKV with subtitles in PGS or SRT. Lastly, I've been happy with the Roku4 but am starting to think about getting a nVidia Shield Pro to see how things go with that device.
ebr 15337 Posted December 30, 2023 Posted December 30, 2023 Hi. Have you chosen the option to auto queue next episodes? Exactly what screen are you playing from?
FatherSaint 11 Posted December 30, 2023 Author Posted December 30, 2023 I do NOT have "play next episode automatically" enabled. I'm playing the videos from the main screen > continue watching. The odd thing is that some shows do work as I would like: the episode finishes, it marks it played and moves ahead to the next episode, ready for me to simply push play. It's absolutely not a big deal. As I mentioned, I'm guessing that because some shows do that and others don't, it might be something in the video encoding...?
Gilgamesh_48 1034 Posted December 30, 2023 Posted December 30, 2023 To me Emby screwed up continue watching some time ago. Fortunately they also made a next up legacy that, for me, works a LOT better than the new improved (screwed up) continue watching. The only drawback is, in home screen settings if you do not uncheck most of your libraries "Display in secondary home screen sections such as latest media and continue watching" setting you will end up with a very cluttered and confusing "Next up legacy." What I have done is uncheck every library except TV shows. That means to find movies I have partially watched I have to enter the library and use the "suggestions" tab but, over all, the next up legacy solves a LOT of problems for me. Home screen looks a lot like this: 1. Next up legacy 2. My media 3. Continue watching 4+ Other sections that I almost never even look at. Disclaimer: Emby has said that "Next up legacy" is temporary but I hope its EOL comes after mine. I do not know if next up legacy will give you what you want but it is worth a try. Note: If you use next up legacy it changes continue watching's behavior. The one thing I wish Emby would do is have a setting that allows Movies to be excluded from next up legacy but included in continue watching.

I put it on 75 to see what happens... Thanks for your help with this! 1

Just keep in mind for a 20 minute episode, 75% means you could stop while still having five minutes to and the server will treat it like you watched the whole thing. You may find that undesirable at times.
