Step By Step Guide to Restart Server for Asustor NAS AS5202T?

That is part of the oddity. As far as I can see, including hidden files/folders, there are no traces of any Emby folder after uninstall.

SSH/ls -a/sudo. etc.....I've looked far and wide.

I am by no means an expert. But not in virgin territory.

Yes, I think that is the next step. I have to confirm to myself that the data will be lost on the disks.

Have you deleted the "emby" user too, per my original instructions.  Not sure this will remedy your issue, but I've had to do that to get Emby working again:

  • deleted the folder "/volume1/.@plugins/AppCentral/emby-server" (aliased at /usr/local/AppCentral/emby-server if that's easier)
    • sudo rm -R "/volume1/.@plugins/AppCentral/emby-server"
  • ran:  sudo userdel emby
  • if the folder "/home/emby" exists after the command above, delete it
    • sudo rm -R /home/emby

Just to confirm, on the ASUSTOR, is the numeric IP address (192.168.68.10) the same?  For example, the left-most tab in the screenshot above, where it says "HKW-ASUSTOR...," is it something like 192.168.10:8000?

Also, in App Central, does it show Emby Server as running?

Yes, the IP address of ASUSTOR is same.
If you are referring to the toggle switch for each app on App Central, yes, it is.

Any resolution to this? I'm still unable to use Emby Server on my Asustor NAS and doing a factory reset of my NAS is not feasible at the moment. Plus, I don't know if that will fix it.

Sorry you are still having problems—and apologies for being redundant—but I just want to confirm that you have done ALL of the following steps:

  1. turn off Emby Server from App Central
  2. remove Emby Server from App Central
  3. run the following command from the terminal:

    sudo rm -R "/volume1/.@plugins/AppCentral/emby-server"

  4. run the following command from the terminal:

    sudo userdel emby

  5. Just to be sure, reboot.
  6. Reinstall Emby Server from App Central.
  7. Access it via port 8096 with your server's IP address (same address you use to access your ASUSTOR).

If you have done all of these steps and are still having problems, I think your only recourse is to do a factory reset.  It's a pain, and I've had to do it twice before, but ASUSTOR support can guide you through the process.

Is there a way to do a factory reset on the Asustor without losing media files?

Thank you @Jägs

I went to the App Central, clicked on the toggle switch to turn off Emby Server.
Then removed it by clicking the trash can icon.

I used the Command Prompt on my PC (ran as administrator) and logged into the Asustor by entering the following in the Command Prompt window.

ssh [ip address of your NAS] -l [logon]

When I entered the commands you advised to enter, I got the responses below.

I'm ready to give up and use Plex but maybe I'm too used to Emby. I already don't like Plex after 5 minutes of trying...

Yes, the factory reset will not actually delete your media files on your drives, just the ADM stuff.  I would highly suggest reaching out to ASUSTOR support, as they can step you through the process and in the case something does go wrong, can help you rebuild your arrays.

For the "rm" command, run the following and let us know what you see:

ls -la /volume1/.@plugins/AppCentral

ls -la /

Also, the last command is my bad.  For some reason, you have to either use the full path for the command, or be come root.  Try one of the following:

sudo /usr/builtin/sbin/userdel emby

-= OR =-

sudo su -
(type in your password)
userdel emby

This seems to have done something as it didn't return an error message. My fingers are crossed and trying to reinstall Emby Server.

@JägsThank you very much for your help with this. After running "sudo /usr/builtin/sbin/userdel emby" command, I re-installed Emby Server from App Central and I was able to get the server to run again. It's a hassle to set up the library and user profiles all over but not a big deal. I'm just glad I was able to get it to work. Thanks again!

Glad it worked!  I think deleting the "emby" user is the key, as I've done the whole uninstall/reinstall and still had issues, so it must be storing some info there.

Regarding your libraries, one thing to consider is purchasing Emby Premiere, as one of the plugins you can use with it is Configuration Backup.  This will back up your library information, playlists, etc.  On the rare occasion where I've had issues with Emby, it has saved me quite a bit of work.
