Extract certificate.zip and open the folder certifiate 3. right click in the folder - select open terminal 4. enter the command: * Please change the name of the give-me-a-name.pfx * After execution of this command you will be prompted to create a password, this is recommanded! openssl pkcs12 -export -out give-me-a-name.pfx -inkey ssl.key -in ssl.crt 5. Save the new create give-me-a-name.pfx file on your NAS in a shared folder of own choice 6. go to: http://local.ip.of.nas:8096/ 7. Go to Advanced and do the following Check that Allow remote connection to this Emby Server is marked. * add external domain name * Custon ssl certificate path (Click on the magnifier right to the text field and navigate to where the .pfx file is. * Certificate password - Add the password you entered after execution of step 4. * Secure connection mode - Set to preferred, but not required. 8. Muchas gracias!

Hello all, I'm not an IT expert and most of what's on Emby Server does not start - Security advisory 2023-05-25 does not make sense to me. I have the Asustor AS5202T and have Emby Server 4.7.11.0 installed on it. I realized last night that my TV wouldn't connect to the server so I restarted my NAS but same thing and discovered the above advisory. Can you post a beginner's step by step guide on how to restart the server on the Asustor? Thank you.

So I happen to have the new Asustor Lockerstor 4 NAS, with Intel Celeron j4125. Before I used to have a much weaker AS3202T though also with Intel processor. On both I usually use transcoding. However, since the hardware update, I am unable to use the hardware encoding on the j4125 CPU. Decoding works, however, encoding does not. Under the Transcoding I have enabled the following: Enable hardware acceleration when available: Advanced Preferred Hardware Decoders - [x] MPEG-2: VAAPI UHD Graphics 605 - MPEG-2 - [x] H.264 (AVC): VAAPI UHD Graphics 605 - H.264 (AVC) - [x] VC-1: VAAPI UHD Graphics 605 - VC-1 - [x] VP8: VAAPI UHD Graphics 605 - VP8 - [x] H.265 (HEVC): VAAPI UHD Graphics 605 - H.265 (HEVC) - [x] VP9: VAAPI UHD Graphics 605 - VP9 Preferred Hardware Encoders - [ ] H.264 (AVC): VAAPI UHD Graphics 605 - H.264 (AVC) - [ ] H.265 (HEVC): VAAPI UHD Graphics 605 - H.265 (HEVC) Transcoding thread count: Auto Transcoding temporary path: /tmp Enable throttling [x] Audio boost when downmixing: 2 H.264 encoding preset: medium H.264 encoding CRF: 22 Allow subtitle extraction on the fly: [x] As you can see, I am forced do disable the hardware encoders, as the video becomes extremely choppy, if played at all. As soon as I disable the hardware encoding, the video plays, but the encoding part of the transcoding happens with the CPU instead of the GPU. I tried to switch the settings from CPU decoding and GPU encoding, but no luck. I also tried to disable the subtitle extraction, no difference. Is there some known problem with the j4125, or is it just so "new" that it is not supported by emby or its ffmpeg? Any help is more than welcome!

I'm currently running Emby server on my PC with the Emby client running on an LG OLED55B7. As I've added more 4k HDR content my wifi network (Google Nest Mesh) struggled to play smoothly so I have connected the PC via powerline devices which have improved things. I keep my data on a USB connected Drobo device on the PC and am thinking of moving the lot to an Asustor Nimbustor 4 - AS5304T NAS, mainly because it has an HDMI port which I can connect straight to the TV and bypass the network altogether for watching movies. The basic specs of the NAS are: Intel Celeron J4105 quad core 1.5 GHz HDMI 2.0a Are there any inherent problems with running Emby on this NAS and using the HDMI output to the TV? I want to view up to 4k HDR, preferably direct rips rather than the compressed mkv's I use at present. The only problem I can see at the moment is I backup some 10tb of data from the Drobo using Crashplan. This gives be unlimited storage for a very reasonable £10 per month. Backing up a NAS on Crashplan is not supported (Drobo is USB) and every other cloud backup service seems to be VERY expensive - are there any reasonably priced cloud backup solutions out there? Thanks

I have an issue regarding a H264 encoded 1080 file that is over 5GB big under Music Video category. It is simply not recognised by Emby, while I can access the file if it is shared from my NAS (and play it - i.e. it is not corrupted), and I have comparable files in the usual Movies folder which play fine. I can access the folder from Emby, but the file is simply missing. This made me wonder, whether there are any limitations given the various categories (Movie, Series, Music, Music Video) in Emby?

Hi, Any of you that have read some of my posts (or maybe rants ) may have realized I'm not real happy with the Asustor updates coming from App. Central. But thanks to a fellow Asustor user lllrinzlerlll , he has let me know a way to keep your Asustor version up-to-date and not have to put up with the atrocious versions we are subjected to. Have heard that Admin Luke is trying to get Asustor to change the way they write the updates or maybe make them ourselves but til then this is the way a few of us are doing it. We are copying the Mono Linux version over what is installed on the NAS. - just go to - https://github.com/M...releases/latest , select Emby.Mono.zip release. When you unzip the Mono version, you will notice in step 5/6 that it's the same files and structure as what you already have. (Would strongly suggest you make a backup copy of this whole section from your NAS - FIRST - just in case it doesn't work or it goofs in some way. That way you can just copy it all back over the top of the original files/folders. Once you've done it once and worked, keep a copy of the last update, just in case the new one isn't liked, you can always just copy it back over the new files and keep using the previous version.) If you haven't already enabled SSH, then open Services, goto Terminal and enable the SSH service. Usually uses port 22. How to install - 1. On the NAS log into Emby and click shutdown, then in Asustor App Central disable Emby 2. Download Emby.Mono.zip to a PC and unpack the zip file to a folder 3. Download and install WinSCP to a PC 4. In WinSCP create an FTP connection with your NAS, you will need to know the IP address, a user and password and have FTP or SFTP enabled in the NAS under settings, FTP is normally port 21 and SFTP is normally port 22 (you will see port number in WinSCP when creating a connection, sometimes its autofilled) 5. In the WinSCP remote window navigate to volume1/@.plugins/AppCentral/mediabrowser/bin (if you cant see @.plugins then you need to enable view hidden files in WinSCP) 6. In the WinSCP local window navigate to where you have the Emby Server unpacked 7. You can highlight all local files and drag them across to the remote path 8. Once complete (for me it took around 10 seconds), you can disconnect your WinSCP session 9. Go back to Asustor App Central and re-enable Emby 10. Give it a minute and then log into Emby, you should be running the latest Linux version you downloaded from the Emby site The benefit of this is Asustor has no idea you have upgraded the system and thinks its running the latest version from the Asustor servers. As long as you don't upgrade Emby from App Central and do it this way every time you will be fine. You can update Emby whenever a new Linux version is available on the Emby site Doing it this way only upgrades the Emby version and doesn't touch the rest of your files (where your metadata is etc). However make sure your not overriding any folders etc where your settings are saved. ------------------------- If any of this is beyond your understanding or you are not comfortable with zip files, copying files via an FTP style program or getting your "hands dirty" in the files section of your NAS, then please don't do it, get someone who is comfortable doing it, and knows what they are doing. ------------------------ The instructions are a direct copy from an email lllrinzlerlll sent me and yes it does work, so thank you very much lllrinzlerlll for all your help.

Hi all I haven't been on the forums for a very long time and am back for a query. Since Media Browser and the rebranding to Emby I have seen Emby transform into a masterpiece and am very thankful for the teams that have put in the effort and time into this nifty set of software and different packages out there to suit peoples desires in terms of being compatible between Operating Systems and devices. This will most undoubtedly be mentioned throughout the forums but I just somewhat do not know what to search when it comes to this. I have looked among the different options for the NAS Servers but have not come to any conclusion as to what is better or for my needs. I also don't have much of an idea when it comes to hardware or OS and what's available. If any users that have experimented with more than one device or OS that can actually comment on what they found better in comparison would be much appreciated. I am still interested in what users have to say about one still if that is all they managed to use. 1 - People who have experience in the different NAS devices? (QNAP, Synology, WD, Seagates, etc.) What components benefit what and why? Possibly specs or a basic rule of thumb for when it comes to picking hardware The gist from what I've seen really is, if I am wanting the server to transcode, I will need a decent CPU to follow suite, but if I am direct streaming or direct playing, the hard work has been taken out of it and can go for something on the lighter end? 2 - The different OS and what each ones pro's and con's are? (ASUSTOR, FreeNAS, Open Media Vault, QNAP, Synology, etc.) Just an OS on the whole. Features and ease of use. Can I change OS regardless of the device I end up with and could I run into problems doing this? Mainly where Emby shines the most in terms of being easy to set up and close to error free as a package as this is my main purpose of wanting a NAS Server. (I am aware that none of them have been under development for long so expect bugs and fixes needed) 3 - Anyone who has built a NAS Device and/or decided against a NAS and decided to build another PC for a server? Would it be advisable to build my own NAS or PC in terms of getting more what I want for a better price?I currently use my PC as the server streaming to a Samsung TV with the App, from what I believe, I don't think in my scenario transcoding it taking place at all as the media plays almost instantly and my CPU/ram usage on my PC doesn't seem to increase while running the server. The TV naturally plays MP4's and the bitrate I imagine is within what the TV handles as the MP4's are around 2gig each with 1080p video and stereo output. I would potentially would want the server to do a few other things such as a monthly backup of mine and my GF's PC's and possibly have remote access. Sorry for the long post. Thanks in advance for anyone that can be of assistance and has some input on the subject. Cheers Strugglez/ Mike.

Hey guys I have been using Emby / Media Browser since way back when it was a mere WMC plugin (probably 8 years... just guessing). Never really bothered to look into or comment in the forums but did pay for premiere Recently I took down my Windows based Emby server which worked great and decided to move everything to a NAS I have noticed there is not much Asustor info so hopefully my setup can help other people. Recently I setup an Asustor 6104T with 4 x 10TB IronWolf drives and 8GB DDR3L 1600. It was slow going at first with not much Asustor info in the Emby forums, however after about a week I ended up with a rock solid system, some of my experiences might be able to help people using Asustor or trying to set one up. Home layout for NAS Internet - Fibre 100/40 Router - ASUS N55U LAN - NAS - Asustor AS6104T (4 x 10TB IronWolf drives and 8GB DDR3L 1600) - I tried 1333 RAM and it seemed to have a massive impact on system performance, so I recommend sticking with 1600 The NAS is in a server room with other household equipment, so it is effectively running headless and no content is played directly on the NAS to a monitor Emby Setup Installation I initially installed Emby from App Central, then using WinSCP, I FTP into the NAS and update the Emby version with the most current from the Emby website (currently 3.1.2.0) This process takes around 20 seconds to do and it should be noted that you must shutdown the Emby server, go to App Central and disable the app before updating. Once updated go back into App Central and reenable the app. Users I currently have 9 users, 6 of those are usually on the internal network (sometimes external) and 3 are external all the time Library My library is around 8TB ranging from TV, SD - HD - 4K, with most of the HD content having DTS 5.1 Playback I have external streams limited to 2Mps, this limits the pressure on transcoding as well as the network Transcoding I spent hours and hours in transcoding, testing multiple devices, configurations etc. Below is the best outcome I can get out of the system thus far, please note I cannot get 4K with DTS 5.1 to play reliably yet although I can get some 4K to work with 2.0 sound. If transcoding continues to be an issue or I can't get Intel Quick Sync working, I will most likely move to something like an Intel NUC i5/i7 to run the Emby server and use the NAS for content only Hardware Acceleration - Video Acceleration API (VA API) (experimental) VA API Device - /dev/dri/card0 Transcoding thread count - Max Enable throttling - unticked FFmpeg version - Use a custom version - I use the version found in App Central (I find it works better with the Asustor than the version shipped with Emby) FFmpeg path - /volume1/.@plugins/AppCentral/ffmpeg/bin/ffmpeg Transcoding temporary path - Set it to whatever you want. In the event of problems I made mine a location that is easily accessible so it can be flushed Audio boost when downmixing - 2 H.264 encoding preset - Auto H.264 encoding CRF - 20 Live TV Using a HDHomeRun HDHR4-2DT but not setup as yet Plugins I have Auto Box Sets and Server Configuration Backup Scheduled Tasks - Chapter image extraction can take anywhere from 20 seconds to 2 hours depending on how much content I add at a time, note that this is quite heavy on the CPU so if you have added new content and the chapters are extracting, you may have playback issues if transcoding while this process is running. This will run the CPU up to around 95% of both cores (my system is a dual core, quad core should be better) - Refresh people takes around 10 mins and loads the CPU to around 5% - Scan media library takes around 10 - 20 mins and can bump your CPU usage up to between 30 and 60%. Similar to Chapter image extraction, while this process is running transcoded playback may be affected The biggest bottle necks of this system are the CPU and RAM, CPU is something you can't change once you buy it (only talking about my Asustor NAS here) therefore you have to manage it appropriately, the memory I highly recommend bumping up to as much as your Asustor can handle (mine is 2 x 4GB, total 8GB) I found that using 1333 DDR3 had an adverse effect on the system, I moved to 1600 DDR3L and everything was much better. I'm not sure if the memory problem was with the clocking speed (1333 vs 1600) or the voltage being used (DDR3 1.5V vs DDR3L 1.35V), limited info on the hardware makes it near impossible for me to know. I can tell you the original sticks that came installed in the system were 2 x 1GB DDR3L 1600 Network Devices LAN - Xbox One using Emby Theater or DLNA when remote playing content from my phone (Emby Theater is the main setup and used 99% of the time) LAN - Xbox 360 using DLNA I think... (havent used it in a while), have done tests on it but don't use it very often LAN - Yamaha 5.1 Reciever using DLNA for audio (Tested only, not used very often) LAN - Panasonic TV using DLNA (Tested only, will not normally use) LAN - HDHomeRun HDHR4-2DT - in the process of setting up so not currently online 5GHz Wifi - S6 Edge 5GHz Wifi - Another S6 Edge 5GHz Wifi - Tab S2 8" 5GHz Wifi - Note 3 5GHz Wifi - Note 5 5GHz Wifi - Windows 10 laptop 5GHz Wifi - another Windows 10 laptop 5GHz Wifi- Android TV (Emby App with MX Player mainly, have tested DLNA, VLC and Chromecast...) 2.4GHz Wifi - Chromecast version 1 2.4GHz Wifi - iPad mini Most of the time I use the Xbox One and the Tab S2" without any dramas at all, the other devices play content sporadically but have not been as thoroughly tested. I have also not had any problems with the Chromecast or Android TV Playback Experience I have tested all 6 internal users playing content as a direct stream along with 3 external users playing direct content as a direct stream, so with no transcoding present all 9 users were able to play content without interruption (they were all HD movies) With transcoding it is a different story, I have tested running 4 internal users with 1 external user. 3 of the internal users were direct streaming with 1 internal user transcoding, the external user was also transcoding but with external streaming set to 1Mbps. This is the max I could get out of the system, adding another user brought the system to a near holt... As soon as I removed one of the users transcoding everything kicked back in again, but note doing this test kept the CPU at 99% constantly. Throughout all tests I had my laptop (not playing any content at all) logged in the NAS VIA browser and the Emby server VIA browser, this allows you to be able to watch the CPU / RAM allocation of the NAS as well as check which users are streaming what content, and if its direct streaming or transcoding. The best everyday experience I have used and tested is the Xbox One App and the Emby for Android TV app using MX Player (codecs for MX Player are floating around and can greatly enhance playback). I always default back to the Emby App on the Tab S2 8" for testing when there is a problem as I haven't had a single issue with it yet... luck i guess. Hopefully this helps anyone currently using an Asustor NAS and is having issues or helps people thinking about setting one up.

Hi, Can somebody please tell me why -- Every Time EMBY does an update IT WIPES EVERYTHING BACK TO A BRAND NEW INSTALLATION ?? The last update (a couple of months ago) also wiped Emby back to a new installation, and since then I have been painstakingly setting it back up AGAIN -- the TV shows, movies and for the last 3 weeks my CD library. And today App Central informs me there is an update to vers. 3.0.6020.r1 .... and I (as I have now found out) foolishly allowed the update to occur ... Emby restarts and it is BLANK !!!! JUST AS IF I JUST INSTALLED IT FOR THE FIRST TIME !!!!! I use the Plugin "Server Configuration Backup" .. So I re-installed it, restarted Emby and ran the last backup which was saved last night --- and it did ... wait for it .... Nothing ! So I restarted Emby again, re-ran the Backup and restored from the last save and waited, around 10 minutes later, noticed some things starting to appear (looks like you can't rush it). So have I got to completely re-setup EMBY EVERY TIME THERE IS AN UPDATE ? And if so - WHY ?? PLEASE HELP !!!!! (Added this morning) So the restore started last night about 8pm .. it is now 6am and the restore is still running - the scan is up to 69.2% Not sure if it is still the 1st scan from the restore last night, or the scheduled scan due 4.30am every day, but the scheduled scan usually takes about 20min ... so this is taking a lot longer. But still I do want to ask the programmers - Does Emby have to wipe itself every time there is an update on the Asustor version ??

Hi guys, I have Emby (V 3.0.5972.0) as the librarian/server for a huge Movie and TV library and watch the shows via Kodi. Problem is, regularly when I start Kodi, it will lose the link to Emby (a orange message appears in the middle of the screen) and I have to re-scan the WHOLE library to be able to watch anything, and have the watched state change. If that was just the problem, it would be OK, just annoying, however, most times when it tries the re-scan it will stop and say an Error Log has been created. 1) Where is the Error Log saved ? 2) How to I get to the error log on an Asustor ? 3) How do I read it ? or copy the error log to my PC so I can read it ? Thanks. (PS Using Kodi with Emby is a real nightmare !!)

I am not sure which category to post this to, so for now I am posting it in the one for my player. I am using the Emby app on a Roku2, my server is located on an Asustor AS304T. I have a bunch of videos that I recorded on my iPhone 5s (running iOS 10.1.1) I am connecting the Roku directly to the Emby server without using EmbyPremiere or logging into an Emby account. I uploaded the videos to the Asustor NAS into the folder that is linked into the Emby library. The videos do show up there. I am able to play them from there when I use the browser to connect from my PC to the Emby web interface of the Asustor NAS. On the Roku2 Emby app, the videos are listed in the library folder. When I select a video, it opens the detail screen for the video with the "Play" button. I select "Play" and it looks like it starts loading, then does not do anything for a few seconds, then drops back to the screen for the selected video with the "Play" button. Why can I not play that video? I also tried Plex with the same video files. In Plex, I am also unable to load the original video (apparently due to encoding, size, and/or the weak server) using the Roku2 Plex app, but I am able to have Plex re-encode the video for mobile devices and then the Roku will play that re-encoded version fine. That version is a lot smaller and has less bandwidth. I have not found an option to explicitly make Emby re-encode my video, so I am not sure if the reason for Emby playback failing is the same as for Plex playback failing on that same original file. What do I need to do to play my videos? Thank you in advance!

Hi, Well there is a new Emby update on the Asustor App. Central - update 3.0.7200.r1 ... but the question is, does it wipe the settings & metadata like previous updates ? Admin Luke - Has Asustor R&D got back to you regarding this problem ? And do you know if it is worth updating to this version if it's going to wipe everything again ? Has anyone else updated this version off the App Central on their Asustor NAS yet ? And if so, does it wipe everything back to a brand new installation like all previous updates ? Thanks PS. I think I asked this already but can't find where, so have started new thread.

Hi, Was wondering if anyone else has this problem and knows how to fix it ? I usually watch media thru Kodi connected to the TV via HDMI cable - using Emby as the media Library/Librarian. This works fine, most of the time, but the link between Kodi and Emby sometimes doesn't work and rather than wait 2 odd hours for Kodi to refresh the media before it will play anything, I thought I might just play the show direct from Emby - but I can't. I can play MP3 music files via SoundsGood and Hi-Res Player using the HDMI connected to the TV. But from LooksGood and Emby - I can only get picture - NO SOUND !! Any idea why or is there a setting somewhere that needs to be set to direct the sound out via the HDMI ? Thanks
