Hi,

I have installed Emby server on my Truenas system and trying to use DLNA to send music files to Keff ls50W speakers.
I am able to connect to the speakers. But when I send some music file, the all seem to skip.

Symptoms:
In the logging hte error is shown "Access token is invalid or expired", with a Response 401 error code.
I am able to send music files to my smart sony tv via dlna (That is on the same subnet)

Stuff tried:
- Configure te local lan settings to 192.168.1.0/24
- Disable the app on my phone and only use the internal website.

Do you have any thoughts at what I am doing wrong?

Thank you,
Bob

Hi, most likely this will be resolved for you in the upcoming 4.8 server release. If you need immediate relief you can use the beta server, but I would look through the testing area first to make sure the reported issues won't impact you. Thanks.

Hi Luke, Thank you for the quick reply. I will wait for the version 4.8.
Do you already have a estimated release date for this version?
And is the verion for Freebsd released at the same date/time?

Regards,
Bob

Hi, i don't have an ETA but we are working hard to get it ready for release. The FreeBSD version will be available at the same time.

Hi Luke,

I had to have a try and have installed the beta version.
It was possible to play mp3 files to the Kef ls50w speakers.
In fact this worked like a charm.

There was one problem, however but I am not sure if this is dlna releated.
It was not possible for me to play flac files.

The Trunas emby (beta)plugin is stil on verions 4.8.0.29.
Is this a know issue?
(I have attached the server log, where I was playing mp3 files and failed to play flac files)

Regards,
Bob

Hi, what happens when you try to play flac?

The device is reporting that it supports flac. Maybe it’s lying and it actually doesn’t?

Hi Luke,

No it supports Flac.
I have also installed minidlna and the same music works just fine.

I have added a service log (with debug off) to clarify.
From the Emby server website I clicked to play at 16:57 a sample flac "Show Me The Way To Paradise.".
Nothing happens. The song shows up on the bottom of the website, but it stays at 0:00.
I waited for four minutes and clicked on a sample mp3 "Daddy Cool" and it starts to play almost immediately.

I have tested this with about 10 mp3 files and with about the same amount of flac files.
The symptoms are the same.

Regards,
Bob

Does it need a specific content type in the response headers? Do you know what minidlna sends back?

Well, I don't know which headers are mandatory.
I have enabled the http logging on my minidlna server.
I do noticed that the http post are formed in SOAP (I dont know if that is different compared to emby?).

I will attach it to this comment.
Maybe you can have a look at the logging and see if you can spot any differences?.

The scenario that I have tested:
- start minidlna with extended http logging:
- Start FLAC "/media/Music/Maywood - Het Beste Van/01-Show Me The Way To Paradise.flac]".
- Let it play the music for a few seconds.
- Stopped the sample fllac.
- Stopped minidlns. (So the important part of the logging is at the bottom).

IP adres minidlns server: 192.168.1.15
IP adress kef ls50w: 192.168.1.76

Thank you,
Bob

I have looked a bit closer at the logging of emby and this is also in SOAP.
I do noticed some headers in the minidlna log, but I don't know if they are different from the emby headers.

As a extra test, I shut down every other "smart device" and send a flac file to the kef ls50W from minidlna.
To have a smaller log.
The test was done on 09:11

I will also attach this log

Hi Luke,

A few questions. Hopefully you can anwer them:

  • I am using the "emby testing version" from truenas. The emby version for this plugin is "Version 4.8.0.29 beta".
Do you know if this version has de lates version of the dlna plugin?
  • Where can I find the latest version of this plugin?
  • Is there an upgrade instruction available for this plugin on truenas/freebsd?

Kind Regards,
Bob

Yes it does, and you can always get updated plugins from the plugin catalog, but they also install automatically.

Hi Luke,

I have just installed "Version 4.8.0.31 beta".
It has the dlna plugin version 1.1.7.0.
It is installed in a new jail, using the freebsd13 instructions.

However unfortunately, the symptoms are stil the same.
I can stream mp3 files just fine. But the flac files not.

I have attached a new server log file, where I tested the working mp3 files and not working flac file.

Best Regards,
Bob

Well that's bizarre. The mp3 and flac usage looks exactly the same. I'll have to try and find a device I can reproduce this with.
