Touz604 11 Posted August 1, 2022 Posted August 1, 2022 Hello, I've been trying to play some files recently on my Fire Stick 4K and it seems that the server doesn't want to start transcoding for this specific device. I'm getting the following error in the transcode log: 20:45:42.640 Impossible to convert between the formats supported by the filter 'hwupload@f4' and the filter 'auto_scale_0' 20:45:42.640 Error reinitializing filters! 20:45:42.640 Failed to inject frame into filter network: Function not implemented 20:45:42.640 Error while processing the decoded data for stream #0:4 20:45:42.650 Conversion failed! When transcoding on other devices (iOS, Android Phone, etc), for the same video, the transcoding is working. I've attached the transcode log and emby server logs here: https://filerun.ineffable.xyz/wl/?id=hq1q8JE7LHZQa1AHzHU1SHpMDEPEkwgK I'm not able to provide a Fire Stick 4K log at this time. Does someone knows why transcoding isn't working anymore for this device? It's been working fine for the past few months. Thanks!
Luke 40078 Posted August 1, 2022 Posted August 1, 2022 Hi there, can you please attach the emby server and ffmpeg log files to this forum posting? Thanks !

It seems to return the same error (see attached logs). I noticed the same issue on other devices than the Fire Stick now. If I disable HW transcoding with Intl iGPU the issue seems to go away... emby transcode log official.txt emby server log official.txt
Touz604 11 Posted August 2, 2022 Author Posted August 2, 2022 I was able to make it work with the official Emby Docker image. I just forgot to add the device to the container command. The issue I was having was with the LinuxServer container, and others seems to have the same problem here: Thank you for your help
Touz604 11 Posted August 5, 2022 Author Posted August 5, 2022 well it seems I was mistaken. The issue isn't fixed. I was confusing 2 different issues that I was experiencing when trying to switch from the Linuxserver container to the official one. When hardware transcoding via the iGPU is enabled, the transcoding works for maybe 2 minutes, then the stream freezes and the Emby app on the client needs to be closed. Any idea what those error lines mean? (the same as the ones in the 1st post) 21:47:31.583 Impossible to convert between the formats supported by the filter 'hwupload@f4' and the filter 'auto_scale_0' 21:47:31.583 Error reinitializing filters! 21:47:31.583 Failed to inject frame into filter network: Function not implemented 21:47:31.583 Error while processing the decoded data for stream #0:11 21:47:31.585 Conversion failed!

Touz604 11 Posted August 5, 2022 Author Posted August 5, 2022 Well, I did some testing, and I downgraded to 4.6.7.0. I then upgraded to 4.7.0.60 and this is where is issues started happening. I will stay with 4.6.7.0 for now. The issue might be related to the 1st point in the post: https://emby.media/community/index.php?/topic/110319-major-issues-after-upgrade-to-latest-beta/ I hope this, with the logs in the 1st post, can help you troubleshoot the issue. 1
Luke 40078 Posted August 15, 2022 Posted August 15, 2022 Hi, please try 4.8.0.8+ once available for your platform and let us know how that compares. Thanks.

It's still isn't working properly, but the error changed when it's failing to transcode with HW, BUT this time it falls back properly to software transcoding. Again, rolling back to 4.6.7.0 and HW transcoding is working fine. Thanks! ffmpeg-transcode-67388151-ebeb-4fe1-ac0e-f9a3bc4cc716_1.txt embyserver_4.8.0.8.log

Touz604 11 Posted September 26, 2022 Author Posted September 26, 2022 Just as a follow-up, it's still not working on 4.8.0.9. It still falls back to software transcoding with this error: 15:25:58.004 [AVHWDeviceContext @ 0x70f4c0] No VA display found for device dev1. 15:25:58.004 Device creation failed: -22. 15:25:58.004 [h264 @ 0x781040] No device available for decoder: device type vaapi needed for codec h264. embyserver.txt ffmpeg-transcode-5a858691-f286-48dd-a253-d4320e334d0a_1.txt
Touz604 11 Posted October 2, 2022 Author Posted October 2, 2022 Is anyone having issues with HW transcoding on Unraid with Emby, using Emby Server 4.7.0.60 or above? Since upgrading from 4.6.7.0, I can't make it to work.
Luke 40078 Posted October 4, 2022 Posted October 4, 2022 @Touz604 Hi there, let's look at an example. Please attach the information requested in how to report a media playback issue. Thanks!
Touz604 11 Posted October 4, 2022 Author Posted October 4, 2022 Hi Luke, thanks for the follow-up. All relevant logs are available in this thread: Sorry, I'm posting a bit left and right in relevant threads trying to figure out if others are experiencing the same issue, because this prevents me from updating to newer versions and it bothers me a bit
Luke 40078 Posted October 4, 2022 Posted October 4, 2022 hi, @softworkz will take a look at this. Thanks.

KrakaClue 1 Posted November 19, 2022 Posted November 19, 2022 Hi Emby team, I have a similar problem with Nvidia Shield and Emby android TV app. The error is: Impossible to convert between the formats supported by the filter 'hwupload@f4' and the filter 'auto_scale_0' I tested Emby versions: previous release (no problem) -> I don't have log to attach 4.7.8 (attached files ending with __478) 4.7.9 (attached files ending with __479) Same problem on both releases. I cannot test the beta release but I hope it will fix this problem. embyserver__479.txt ffmpeg-transcode-f4bbc236-30de-4f82-9895-6156cb253f96_1__479.txt embyserver__478.txt ffmpeg-transcode-a9e3976b-11d2-4d1e-a235-5311270ec0a3_1__478.txt
