There was a big controversy between the tube and pro shield with less performance.

generiq 113
There is another aspect to consider...the muxing/demuxing. Dolby Vision in mkv is still very new, and many demuxers won't fully support the variants, if at all. Here's an example. I have this file from the Dolby developer site: Format : MPEG-4 Format profile : Base Media / Version 2 Codec ID : mp42 (mp42/isom/iso5) File size : 329 MiB Duration : 2 min 58 s Overall bit rate : 15.5 Mb/s Encoded date : UTC 2020-10-06 22:55:02 Tagged date : UTC 2020-10-06 22:55:02 Video ID : 1 Format : HEVC Format/Info : High Efficiency Video Coding Format profile : Main 10@L5.1@Main HDR format : Dolby Vision, Version 1.0, dvhe.08.05, BL+RPU, HDR10 compatible / SMPTE ST 2086, HDR10 compatible Codec ID : hev1 Codec ID/Info : High Efficiency Video Coding Duration : 2 min 55 s Bit rate : 15.1 Mb/s Width : 1 920 pixels Height : 1 080 pixels Display aspect ratio : 16:9 Frame rate mode : Constant Frame rate : 59.940 (60000/1001) FPS Color space : YUV Chroma subsampling : 4:2:0 (Type 2) Bit depth : 10 bits Bits/(Pixel*Frame) : 0.121 Stream size : 315 MiB (96%) Default : Yes Alternate group : 1 Color range : Limited Color primaries : BT.2020 Transfer characteristics : PQ Matrix coefficients : BT.2020 non-constant Mastering display color primaries : BT.2020 Mastering display luminance : min: 0.0050 cd/m2, max: 4000 cd/m2 Codec configuration box : hvcC+dvvC It's mp4 and plays without issue. I have this file, which is a new show that is currently airing: Format : Matroska Format version : Version 4 File size : 1.50 GiB Duration : 33 min 20 s Overall bit rate : 6 458 kb/s Encoded date : UTC 2021-09-12 18:02:42 Writing application : mkvmerge v61.0.0 ('So') 64-bit Writing library : libebml v1.4.2 + libmatroska v1.6.4 Video ID : 1 Format : HEVC Format/Info : High Efficiency Video Coding Format profile : Main 10@L5.1@Main HDR format : Dolby Vision, Version 1.0, dvhe.08.06, BL+RPU, HDR10 compatible / SMPTE ST 2094 App 4, Version 1, HDR10+ Profile B compatible Codec ID : V_MPEGH/ISO/HEVC Duration : 33 min 20 s Bit rate : 6 200 kb/s Width : 3 840 pixels Height : 2 160 pixels Display aspect ratio : 16:9 Frame rate mode : Constant Frame rate : 23.976 (24000/1001) FPS Color space : YUV Chroma subsampling : 4:2:0 (Type 2) Bit depth : 10 bits Bits/(Pixel*Frame) : 0.031 Stream size : 1.44 GiB (96%) Default : Yes Forced : No Color range : Limited Color primaries : BT.2020 Transfer characteristics : PQ Matrix coefficients : BT.2020 non-constant Mastering display color primaries : Display P3 Mastering display luminance : min: 0.0001 cd/m2, max: 1000 cd/m2 Maximum Content Light Level : 580 cd/m2 Maximum Frame-Average Light Level : 136 cd/m2 It only plays the audio, with a black screen. The only major difference is the container, mp4 vs mkv. You can also see that the codec IDs are different. The mp4 reads as hev1, but the mkv is V_MPEGH/ISO/HEVC. I'm playing these on a Windows 10 machine with the official Dolby Labs extension, and with the Movies & TV app (yes it plays DV correctly). If I play them in mpv (mpv doesn't support DV), it plays the HDR10(+) correctly, (also correctly in VLC). So the suggestion is that maybe the demuxer needs to catch up. This may be why it works in the native player of the Dune, but not in other players. They may have a more up to date demuxer (which I would expect them to have). Windows/Dolby extension also needs to be updated.
