    Back to PLEX i go..sad

Just a few more points - the cache still needs to load from disk into memory once you first open the home screen. Give the system a few minutes set itself up before you call it a failure. If nothing else, it should at least be snappier. The other thing I mentioned was a movie with some type of non-ASCII character in the sort description. It seems that there were some threads about that messing up Roku alpha pickers. Anyhow, just trying to help. Hope you day goes better.

I disagree that 8GB is the issue. While 8GB may seem small, this issue is only happening on his Roku and then again only in movies. I think it is sufficient for not having to have the Roku Ap hang up when using the alpha picker.

Either you have a lot of media or there is something wrong with this database. As my 40+TB server has less than a gig db (440MB).

well....I thnk everyone for the help, but again nothing seems to work for me... for some odd reason the alphapicker for movies filtered to titles, just does not seem to work for me and my family and friends. I have increased the database cache several times, restarted several times and still no better... I know all my family and freinds use the alphapicker and its having some issue on MY end..it has to be but unable to figure it out. Other people the alphapicker is perfect for me..no clue....

I have Synology 1621+ using Apple TV 4K, not Roku. The 8GB RAM spec doesn't seem good enough. If your Synology NAS allows you to upgrade to 16GB or 32GB RAM, I highly recommend it.

    Getting Started with Emby.

I once, many many years ago, faced a challenge from a college professor, the test was to prove that i was human and alive and sentient, i could not do it and on the internet it would be more impossible. (I am not sure that it is possible to be more impossible.)

Video ads coming to Roku TVs

Ads on the home screen are only a problem for me if they must be watched before proceeding on to actual content. I almost never watch the home screen as I prefer to watch content. When the ads are forced, like some services do when content is launched, like watching an ad before the content plays, it is often too intrusive and I often go to another service. Almost nothing, for me, is important enough to suffer through an ad to watch. Most things I have seen on my Shield or Fire stick still allow you to browse while the ad plays so, to use my Shield as an example, I mute the sound when I start my Shield and unmute after I choose the app i want to use. I can usually effectively ignore the visuals as long as the sound is off. The thing the I am dreading is clients like Roku, Shield or Fire playing pre-launch ads that must be watched to completion before the app starts. For me that would be a deal breaker. I have not had the need to use a custom launcher, at least yet. But, if the ads become unskipable, I will either use a custom launcher or use a different client. I prefer my Rokus for watching content and I would really hate it if my Rokus even become unusable due to intrusive ads. BTW: I have heard rumblings that NVIDIA is investigating forbidding custom launchers and, if true, that would be a huge step in the wrong direction. The streaming universe seems to be becoming a continuous fight between ads being forced and people devising new ways to avoid ads. Right not it seems, industry is strongly leaning toward forced ads. Unfortunately.

    Buffering live TV

Have not removed plugins yet, reboot seems to fix the problem fine and I get to keep the plugins, so I'll just manually reboot once a day. I went long enough without my commercial skip earlier this month. I guess when I decide that rebooting is too much of a headache to do manually I'll come back to the Post.
  16. Was recently looking for a photo slideshow for our TV. Something to just randomly go through our vacation photos and display them like a picture frame. Stumbled upon the Photo feature of Emby, as we have been using Emby for videos for a while now. We have all our photos grouped in folders. All together 100+ folders and around 20,000+ photos total. On the Photos screen, it defaults to the Folders view which works great. But, I can also choose Photos and then choose Randomize for a makeshift photo picture frame. I correctly see 1/20,583 in the bottom right corner. Click play on the remote and it start going through the photos. At photo 150 it then loop back to the beginning. Have verified this twice. Not sure if I am going something wrong or if this is a possible bug. Any support is appreciated! Thank you for the great software, we love it!

Sorry if I was not clear, but yes that is what I did. In the post above I tried the alpha picker (sorting by Title) and it took about 5 seconds to jump from A to Z the first time and then about 1 second on any subsequent jump.

try the alphapicker for titles and let me know what happens for you?

Yes, you would need to SSH into your Synology to get that. I wouldn't spend time messing about with that. If you have 8gb of ram trying 1024 should not be risky. Reboot and test and see if it improves. A thought for later though - if you do want to check your database size easily you can set up the backup plugin to save to a folder that you can see in the Synology DSM. Then you can open that backup folder and see the copy of database file. Hope that helps!

Understood. Sorting by Title is the only one that gets you the alpha picker. I’m just saying that I don’t usually use the alpha picker so I haven’t really looked at it until now. BTW I also have a 1520+ and use Roku so hopefully my performance is decent benchmark.

Don't know Synology but will guess you need db cache of a minimum of 512 but would probably set to 1024. You can always just test.

    Rethink Audiobooks

I think the fact that the Emby dev team does not listen to audiobooks means the dev team does not understand what would be best to improve the experience. Having embedded chapters in a horizontal row is not useful or intuitive; having the ability to reorder audiobook tracks, which is pointless, leads to accidents. Among other things. Chapters should be shown in a single vertical list, whether they be from embedded m4b chapters or separate tracks There should not be separate artwork thumbnails for each chapter. It wastes space. Metadata scrapers should pull from book or audiobook sources, not from themoviedb There should be a feature to set bookmarks There should be customizable FF/RWD buttons that let you skip forward or back by 15 or so seconds There should be an ability to adjust the playback speed If you used Emby for audiobooks, you could intuit for yourself why it doesn't work well and why the experience is barebones at best.

    Firestick Lite transcoding HEVC

Hmm Main10@L4 should certainly not have issues - that is the lowest basic profile you can use for 1080p. Both FireTV and AndroidTV use the same Exoplayer - I think AndroidTV may be slightly ahead, but as this is such a basic profile, it really should not make any difference. What's the Audio ? Maybe that has a factor in this.

    Firestick Lite transcoding HEVC

I don't have that many HEVC files and really only tested it in both the FireTV and the Android app version with one of them, as this already showed the same behaviour as others have described, that with the Fire TV app it gets transcoded, but plays fine on the same FireTV stick when using the Android app. Here is the mediainfo output of the file: Video ID : 1 Format : HEVC Format/Info : High Efficiency Video Coding Format profile : Main 10@L4@High Codec ID : V_MPEGH/ISO/HEVC Duration : 1 h 51 min Bit rate : 5 782 kb/s Width : 1 920 pixels Height : 1 080 pixels Display aspect ratio : 16:9 Frame rate mode : Constant Frame rate : 23.976 (24000/1001) FPS Color space : YUV Chroma subsampling : 4:2:0 Bit depth : 10 bits Bits/(Pixel*Frame) : 0.116 Stream size : 4.49 GiB (92%) Default : Yes Forced : No Color range : Limited Color primaries : BT.2020 Transfer characteristics : SMPTE ST 2084 Matrix coefficients : BT.2020 non-constant Mastering display color primaries : R: x=0.708000 y=0.292000, G: x=0.170000 y=0.797000, B: x=0.131000 y=0.046000, White point: x=0.312700 y=0.329000 Mastering display luminance : min: 0.0000 cd/m2, max: 1000.0000 cd/m2
