I'm using Emby on a Shield with the Emby server running on a Windows 11 PC that is configured to use a HDHomeRun Flex 4K. I schedule a recording on a ATSC 3.0 channel (no DRM - WJLA) and go to playback the recording using the internal player in Emby. At some point during the viewing, the audio and video will freeze and unable to recover (pause/resume/skip do nothing. have to exit completely). Each time I try to play the recording, it does the same thing at the same point in the recording. I tried using a 2nd shield and it too froze the playback at the same point in the recording. If I select the option to use an external player in the Emby settings on the shield (VLC), the video plays back straight through without any problems. If I play the recording on the windows PC with VLC, the video again plays back without any problems. I've had this happen 3 previous times trying to record from the same OTA station. Any ideas? I restarted the emby server, reproduced the issue, and saved the embyserver log file - added to this post. embyserver.txt

Have you done the checks for cgNAT at the end of the page I linked? cgNAT prevents any access from outside. Note that the test shown there is incomplete - I have told Emby several times, but they haven't got around to updating the page! In the list of numbers to look for, there should also be 100, which needs the following number to be checked for the range 64-127. Paul

Tested this again but unfortunately it's still not refreshing the list after I delete a video file. Please let me know if there's anything else you need to help troubleshoot. EDIT: Never mind, it appears to be refreshing after a few minutes, which is sufficient enough. Thanks for your hard work in implementing this fix!

So I just requested a site review, as well as generated a new SSL cert. It seems to be working without issue now. That was a great deduction on the cert, thanks!

This was my assumption. If I launch the app it only plays audio and no video. I do this without premier. As andoid auto is specifically mentioned on the premier page I thought it added something. Thanks for the clarification.

I am directing my comment at the Windows OS, primarily, I am sure any EMBY apps that don't use the system player, is because the one/type they do use is better than the system player. It has equivalent functionality plus more whistle and bells. Though some times the system player does all you need. My use case dopped .flac file on windows edge and the file played correctly.

I have enabled remote access in the Manage Emby section and I have manually forwarded port 8096 to the NAS IP{ on the router. However, despite doing this, canyouseeme.org cannot see port 8096 so I suspect that is the issue. The rule is there and I have allowed the port through the firewall from any IP. (In fact even if I turn the firewall off completely, 8096 cannot be seen from an external address so in fact, not the firewall)

What do you need help for - what are you failing to do? Paul

You say he can see your NAS, but have you done the things that enable Emby to be accessed remotely? https://emby.media/support/articles/Remote-Setup.html Note - Connect isn't a way around doing this, it's simply a dedicated way of looking up where your server is. Paul

Yes I would adjust the client playback quaility setting as for some reason you are hitting the 4Mbps limit. I also found my sync folder balooning in size. For linux users, scheduling a script to delete folders older than 'x' days should help: # delete all folders older than 14 days find /home/emby/sync/* -maxdepth 0 -mtime +14 -type d -exec rm -r {} \; can also do similar to clean out transcoding temp folder.

Hi My son moved out today and tried to access my Emby server from his new address over the internet. He cannot get access. He can see the server (NAS) with the external IP address (WAN IP) but cannot connect. I tried getting him to look at his Emby account but that has nothing about an Emby Connect account. So I created a new Emby Connect account for him and put it in the "Emby Connect e-mail address" field, he received an email and confirmed the address, signed in to emby.media using that email address and still cannot connect. I think I have followed the KB articles for connecting with Emby Connect but it doesn't work. I tried using my forum email account to connect on my account using a browser to <WAN IP>:8096 but it just says " Hmmm… can't reach this page <WAN IP> refused to connect." (8096 is the current port for HTTP)

Yes that was another thought that I had, the key that I used when I created my PFX is not an encrypted key. It asks for an import password as well as PEM pass phrase when trying to view the pfx with openssl but they happen to be the same password. It's been a while since I created it.

Yes it's transcoding because of a quality setting, I think it pretty much defaults to 4 Mbps on auto. I'd recommend either manually setting a higher quality or see if putting 192.168.0.0/24 in the LAN networks field and probably restart the client app if that works to play at full quality and hopefully also doesn't transcode. It's not using your RX 580 at all.

HI, are you saying you want to listen to a video using android auto? That's very doable. But to actually display the video, I don't believe Google allows that to my knowledge. You'd have to launch the Emby app.

We still incorporate known supported formats. the browser certainly cannot direct play everything. And some of our apps do not use the system player.

Hi @Luke I don't think you should ever transcode music for anything other than bit rate limits. For instance home network 1gb and most available wifi in my area 30mb-750mb. the OS housing the client supplies the necessary decode/playback codecs. Windows guy and windows has built-in support for all mainstream music audio formats, and most others. So I am in the camp for any kind of music file try direct play first..

Thanks, That seems to be one in the cons for getting premier. It boasts "Use Emby effortlessly in your car with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto support." but IF I need to purchase somethingh else then it's not worth the hastle. I'll just find a phone mount that puts my phone close to the screen in my car.

That's something the developers could consider. Having both a storepass and a keypass involved, even if the same, might need changes in the Emby code to handle. LE issues the full stack and generates a new private key for each issue/renewal and doesn't encrypt any of it. Sometimes this is taken for granted when people want to create their keystores in specific and more secure ways. Since most CAs handle CSRs you don't have to ever expose your private key and that's the price to pay for ease and convenience of the free services like LE.

The standard app should give a better error message.
