    Localized titles

Localized titles provide language- or region-associated labels for one work, independently of its original title and scoped catalogue identity.

A film can have several valid labels associated with different audiences. An original title and a localized release title describe the same work through different wording.

One entity can supply several labels

    For an invented work:

    Label role Example
    Original title La Gare
    English presentation The Station
    French presentation La Gare
Provider identity One selected movie reference

The English wording is not another provider entity merely because its characters differ. Conversely, a different film named The Station remains a different work.

    Title disambiguation explains that distinction.

    Selection needs an available-language set

A library can choose a title using requested language, supplied alternatives and a fallback policy. If an exact fr-CA label is absent but fr is present, one policy can select fr; another can retain the original title according to its rules.

The result should keep its source/language relationship. Filling a requested English field with an original French label without describing the fallback can make the record misleading.

Emby's library context and configured metadata sources govern the product route. A user's interface language does not by itself establish that every item has been fetched anew in that language.

A cache must retain the presentation request

An original conceptual key includes entity and requested language. If a lookup cached only the entity ID, a later request can reuse the earlier language's label accidentally.

A stale title and a wrong identity are then different problems. The file can remain matched to the intended movie while displaying a label from another presentation request.

    Preserve edits with their purpose

A user can deliberately choose a local title, an edition suffix or another useful display label. Metadata Manager documents editing and protecting fields through refresh.

A provider title correction should be assessed against that purpose. The original label, localized label and selected display value can coexist in a structured record rather than being flattened into one supposedly authoritative string.
