[ISSUE] External Connection on Android: Always a Connection Failure

Hello Emby Forums,

I am currently experiencing an extremely frustrating situation that I cannot find a solution ANYWHERE. I am using a desktop, Windows 10.

"Connection Failure

We're unable to connect to the selected server right now. Please ensure it is running and try again."

My family member outside of my country has an Android cell phone and has Emby app installed from Google's Play Store. When I signed in to my account, sees my server, pressed it, and my family member cannot connect. It always say that annoying notice. My Emby Server is turned on on my computer, but it seems to work in my home on other devices just not on my family member's cell phone. Things use to work out, now it doesn't anymore.

I tried the following:

  1. On Emby app, signing in by IP address using my In-Home (LAN) access and Remote (WAN) access - my family member still cannot login
  2. On Emby app, I press my server name - my family member still cannot login
  3. On my computer, the Emby icon on the bottom right, I right click it, I click "Restart Emby Server", when it is done restarting - my family member still cannot login
  4. I restart my computer, open Emby app, my family member still cannot login
  5. I shut down my computer, wait for 10 seconds, turn it back on, open Emby app, my family member still cannot login
  6. On my family member's cell phone, on the browser, tried logging in on In-Home (LAN) access and Remote (WAN) access - my family member still cannot login
  7. On my computer, I uninstalled Emby then re-installed, did the setup - my family member still cannot login
  8. On my family member's cell phone, I uninstalled Emby then re-installed, I logged in, pressed the server - my family member still cannot login

Is there a solution for this? Thanks.

Hi, have you setup your server for remote access?

Does it pass the canyouseeme.org port test?
Please review this page and let us know if your remote access is working

Hello Cayars,

Thank you for the response.

My family member from abroad uses mobile data on Android and checked canyouseeme.org on port 8096, it is failed. I also checked out the link provided - Allow remote connections to this Emby Server and Enable automatic port mapping are both check marked on my Emby server.

On my Android cell phone, I enabled my mobile data and received the same failure (I cannot access my server and port 8096 is failed). It appears to only work for devices connected to my network/LAN/Wi-Fi in my home. Before my family member can login by mobile data, now not anymore, it use to disconnect, but now can no longer access my server - strange.

Canyouseeme.org is only for the server LAN as it will only check the WAN address of IP you are testing from.

If you would like we can do a remote session with you and help you get any issues straightened out and help you verify remote access. We could also set up a test user and test remotely playback.

If you would like to do this, send me a PM and we can setup a remote session.
