I've provided pictures below, it's very annoying. Thanks :)

Sorry I don't quite follow as the subtitles are appearing in the letterbox border of the actual media so there is no black background.  You have that same border without subtitles correct?

Maybe they are referring to this "background"

which is separate to the standard letterbox

It kinda seems a bit related to this topic, but not quite the same

When I turn off the subtitles the border goes away. I shouldn't have said black background sorry.

Which Emby client are you using for playback where you see this?

Hello,

I have this exact same issue and can't find a way to get rid of it (Emby native web video client).

HI, this will be improved in the upcoming Emby Server 4.7 release. Thanks.

I would love to be able to add a black background behind my subtitles...so much of the time the white text gets lost when the content is too busy or bright, making them illegible. These days with so many mumbly actors, poorly mic'ed recordings, and terrible TV speakers, despite having perfectly find hearing, I can't even watch TV without subtitles on everything.

This will be available in the next server version 4.7 for Subtitles options.  Devs are hoping to release any day now.
