Is there a better way to utilize strm files with 4.6? Currently, I have some strm files that have hard links to bad locations which is requiring manual editing. Would there be a way to change strm files so that they are symbolically linked (like you did with collections)? Use case: Battlestar Galactica or the Stargate series have episodes and specials that should be watched in the middle of a season.

I don't believe 4.6 treats strm files any different - it's effectively just a link to the real video file (and supporting nfo & jpg if you want metadata).

The best way I have found to get 'specials or crossovers' played mid season is to create a 'fake' season 0 strm file and 'position it' using the extra 'special' metadata options.

See here - as I wrote a script to automate this - you may be able to re-use some of the code logic.
