Manually added Actor images and files not saving to server location (Emby-Server\metadata\People)

Hello all.

Yesterday I started watching a new Tv series and noticed some of the actors from the episodes were missing. I started going through and adding them manually. Adding actors with IMBB IDs and TMDB IDs. As well as adding missing actor images as needed. Today I went back and looked at the episodes that I had done and noticed that most if not all the actors I added were missing. Now after I finished an episode I unchecked people from the list and locked the episodes so no new changes could be made. Today after redoing a few actors I would also lock them and save them. I went into the server location (Emby-Server\metadata\People) and looked to see if the new actors and images were being saved and the are not. Am I doing something wrong? I work for a few hours making these edits and them not saving is kinda making me unhappy. Any help would be great.

That \people folder has not been used for over 2 year. (new people but if old db entries point to that location it is still used)

How to backup people images with beta going onwards? - Page 5 - Emby Server - Emby Community

But will be coming back in 4.6 with minor changes, but don't know true effect on a existing \people yet.

Back to your issue can you go over a specific example of a set person image being lost to include the server log/s for that timeframe.

ok, I stated adding actors and images for said actors for the first season of Bones. In the episode #4, The Man in the Bear, I added the actor Rusty Joiner to the cast list for the episode.

Then manually added his IMDB IDs and TMDB IDs, added a custom image for him and saved the and locked the episode and and his profile from changing. I check today to see if his profile was still added to the episode and it was not. Along with more than 20 other actors I added to to other episodes. I then re-added his profile and saved it again. I then went to the server location (Emby-Server\metadata\People) to see if his profile had been saved. It had not. If you look at the images below you see there is not path saved for his profile but and actor from the same episode is saved. 1218914894_Screenshot_2021-01-18Emby.thumb.png.f296ece669ed28a48452449d008bd27f.png312054590_Screenshot_2021-01-18Emby2.thumb.png.1c044b2ed8a2d91d8a203890b41e8909.png

That was changed over 2 years about and currently only save images to \library and metadata to database. (changing again in 4.6)

Now that bottom image would be considered a legacy/old database entry and still honoring its location in the \people folder.

As for why you are losing information it is hard to say and logs covering that time frame are needed.

I'll be honest what is being discussed in that post is a little over my head, but am I to understand that we can not longer make changes to cast list on episodes and add actors profiles for missing people? I never really gotten this detailed with editing/adding casts and actor profiles before. The only reason I stated doing it is because I've notice metadata being pulled from TVDB has been trash and I thought I might as well do it myself, but if I can't that kinda sucks.  If the information is no longer saved on my machine then were is it saved?

There should be no issue adding people to any item in Emby.  Now the location said info has changed over the years and will change again in next release.

But server logs covering the edit and loss of the edited info are need.  Do you have Emby set to write metadata to nfo file (it is a per library option)?

I'm honestly not sure. Were is that setting located? I've not made many changes to the default settings.

Is this the setting you are referring to?

@Happy2Play Question where are the new images that I upload for actors being saved now then? I still don't really understand that. If I add a new cast member and create and save an image for that actor, where is that image saved or is it?

Currently to a very confusing Emby-Server\metadata\library\xx\xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx folder.  You log at the time of upload will show you or you have to go to the API and lookup the person to see exact path id or manually looking in the database.

I tested adding a actor to a episode and have no issues.  But as expected doing a Refresh replace all removed that added person.

Ok that sounds more or less what is happening to me. I add person and after a time 20 mins or so that person is removed. Even if I lock that episode. Just so that I understand at this point no matter what I do I can not added or remove people from episodes. Correct?

No, I just added a person to episode, locked People on said episode and did Refresh replace all and added person was not removed.  Unlocked People on Episode and did Refresh replace all and person was removed as expected.

So if that is happening for you then we need the server log for that time.

Ok @Happy2Play I just tired to add that actor again. If he disappears again I will post my server logs. Thanks for all your help.
