Can you point me to one of those with this specific issue?

I think you are making a lot of assumptions that we don't have any evidence for but happy to be proven wrong (by an actual case).

From a quick search ...

Okay, so with the setting we have in the app it works as expected, correct?

Many devices do not support AAC beyond 2 channels - especially as inputs.

All of his experience so far is with a different system.  We'd probably be best to wait until he actually test with Emby.

I didn't specify channel count. And if they all support 2 channel mp3 and 2 channel AAC, why use both?

Ah yes, if all of the reports are based on the other system, then the information is of no use.

That said, it's probably treating it like ARC or SPDIF, decoding to PCM and then resampling to stereo.

Only connection on the Sonos arc is eArc which is what I am using with my LG C9 OLED which supports eArc.

And which Sonos device is it?

The new Sonos ARC soundbar now supports DTS and Atmos.

Atmos yes, DTS no. LPCM 5.1 is coming soon.

Stupid name they gave the device.

It's going to confuse a lot of people when talking about connections with the Arc, arc and eArc 🙄

Also, I have the Sonos Beam (and PlayBar before that) and it also doesn't support DTS playback, but with my Shield attached to it, then the TV, DTS is remuxed to DD, which is confirmed by the Sonos app.

My two cents, I have some Shields in different systems, the only one that supports DTS is the only one that the Shield does DTS passthrough. If I disable DTS passthrough in Android TV app in that system, then DTS is converted in AC3 at server side as expected.

When DTS is unsupported, DTS is converted to AC3.

Another Sonos->Shield-LGtv user here.

I disabled DTS/DTS-HD passthrough in de playback settings, every DTS/DTS-HD-track gets transcoded to AC3.

But it's a shame PGS subtitles don't work while transcoding ,server crashes.
So it's og subtitle with PCM audio (settings on LGtv) or srt subtitle with AC3 audio.

I hope there will come a solution for this

Hi.  The next release of the app will allow you to tell it not to convert those to DD.  I cannot say when this will be generally available but you can try the beta if you wish.

Hi Ebr,

Thanks for the response

The track is better with Ac3, but i do like to choose original subtitles.
Will that be possible in the next release?

Hi.  That's possible now but, if the item has to be remuxed in order to convert the audio then these subs have to be burned in by the server.  You either need to choose a compatible audio track, let the app decode the incompatible track to PCM (what the next release will allow you to do) or obtain text-based subtitles to avoid the transcoding and burn in.

''''let the app decode the incompatible track to PCM (what the next release will allow you to do)''''

Or just change the tv settings to pcm, so emby don't have to do all the work.

Just trying to watch some 4K movies with DTS while transcoding to AC3.

But some movies cant playback the image, i get some purple, greenish color's.
This is because of the transcoding. If i select another track aC3 (with commentary), there''s no problem.

Why does one movie have this problem, and the other not?

Inception has this problem, intersteller doesn't

- Direct stream becasue of the audio
- 4K movie with 76 mbps
- MKV content

Thanks in your advance

I''m on the latstest beta version, but no succes.

Also i can'' t find the NCDEX.Ex decoder. Is this because the server is on a Shield?

This is a server issue:

18:29:38.537   Stream #0:0 -> #0:0 (copy)
18:29:38.537   Stream #0:1 -> #0:1 (dts (dca) -> ac3 (native))

There's an issue in the server while remuxing HEVC HDR content, it seems to be due to a bug in ffmpeg.

Here's in another example:

As a workaround:

If you are running Android TV stable you can set audio output "Enable downmix" and If you run Android TV beta you can disable "Convert Unsupported Audio to Dolby Digital".

This will downmix all audio to pcm.
I also have the beta version, but “convert unsupported audio” is not available
Only enable downmix

My sonos playbar can play truehd, so this is no option.

i will wait untill dts can be remuxed to ac3 without any problems.

Thanks

The latest beta of the ATV no longer has the Downmix option, just the "Convert Unsupported Audio to Dolby Digital" option. Enabled, it will convert (remux) audio to AC3, disabled it passes though PCM.

Make sure you're running v1.8.66.

My Shield/Sonos Beam combination causes any audio better than Dolby Digital to remux to DD.

Not sure your Sonos PlayBar can play TrueHD, as when I had one it couldn't.

Or do you have a Sonos ARC?

I thought you mean the server, just update and see the option.
But still doesn't work for all movies:

Still, some movies have some troubles while transcoding 4k HDR, as i steaded below.

I can play movies with TrueHD audio on SonosPlaybar, without transcoding, so DirectPlay. (see attachment)
In Sonos settings -> about my system, it's Dolby Digital 5.1.
-While ''Allow DTS Pass-thru'' and ''Enable DTS-HD Pass thru'', enabled.

If i disable above and enable ''Covert Unsupported Audio to Dolby Digital,''
TrueHD (and DTSand DTS-HD) will transcode.

Isn't TrueHD not just a new updated codec for Dolby Digital and Dolby DTS something else?

Some of my movies have only DTS and some new movies have TrueHD.

Normally i switch my tv (LG) audio settings, from Auto to PCM, if i want to watch a movie with DTS.
'Allow DTS Pass-thru'' and ''Enable DTS-HD Pass thru'', are enabled.

I hope I have explained everything correctly.
