solo1133 0 Posted July 28, 2019 Posted July 28, 2019 Inside of the movies section in emby on the left where you chose the letters to get to certain movies by first letter of the name. For some reason it is showing up as #,A,AE,B,C,D...etc. Any time you choose something after AE it just keeps going back to AE which chooses AEon flux. The TV show section is correct, why does the movie section show up like that with the AE. Basically I can't browse using that function by choosing another letter. How can I remove the AE in the movies section.
Guest asrequested Posted July 28, 2019 Posted July 28, 2019 (edited) Yeah, just confirmed that. Any letter chosen after that, Aeon Flux is always at the top. This is on Android mobile. Edited July 28, 2019 by Doofus
solo1133 0 Posted July 28, 2019 Author Posted July 28, 2019 If I want to watch a movie say in the T's...I just give up because it takes way to long to browse if you have a bunch of content. I guess you can use the search function, but I really would like to just browse at times at certain letters. Do you know how that happened? And is there a quick way to remove it?
d00zah 149 Posted July 28, 2019 Posted July 28, 2019 Just set metadata 'Sort title' to 'Aeon Flux'. Title will still display as is, bu it'll end up where you expect it to & the alpha picker will be happy.
solo1133 0 Posted July 28, 2019 Author Posted July 28, 2019 Is that something I can do? And if so, how to I do it? Is this a global issue? Doofus said it shows up for him that way as well.
Guest asrequested Posted July 28, 2019 Posted July 28, 2019 Yes, you can modify the metadata, but this is a bug. If you choose Z, Aeon Flux is still the first movie.

The problem is the stylized 'Æ', which probably occurs nowhere else in nature, so coding around it is probably an unreasonable expectation. edit: actually, probably just a problem where localization is 'english'. https://duckduckgo.com/?q=%C3%86&t=ffcm&ia=web It ca be easily fixed by: Open http://localhost:8096/web/index.html#!/home.html(substitute server IP address for 'localhost' if NOT on the same PC). Browse to the 'Æon Flux' detail page. Select the '...' menu select 'Edit metadata' Paste 'Aeon Flux' into the 'Sort title' field & save. Edited July 28, 2019 by d00zah
d00zah 149 Posted July 28, 2019 Posted July 28, 2019 Are other people seeing this as well? I did... long ago, until I changed the 'sort title'.
solo1133 0 Posted July 28, 2019 Author Posted July 28, 2019 Forgive me d00zah. I just don't know where to find this information. So I'm subscribed to baconfeet and I'm using the emby app on my nvidia shield. Do I need to do this on my shield or on my PC...and does doing this on my PC fix the issue i'm having on my shield?
solo1133 0 Posted July 28, 2019 Author Posted July 28, 2019 I can switch the sorting to Z-A and it seems to work correctly...just tested it. But it sucks having to do that all the time.

Luke 42079 Posted July 29, 2019 Posted July 29, 2019 It's not Æ, it's actually a single character. The A-Z picker is dynamic based on the leading characters of the sort titles of your media. If you don't like seeing Æ, you can always customize the sort title of that particular item.
Guest asrequested Posted July 29, 2019 Posted July 29, 2019 The problem is that if you choose a letter from the alpha picker after that character, that movie is at the top of every section you make. Press 'B' and you get Aeon Flux, press 'C' and you get Aeon Flux and so on.... with every one of them.
Luke 42079 Posted July 29, 2019 Posted July 29, 2019 Yes that's an issue that needs to be looked at, thanks for reporting.
atomicmoon 152 Posted February 10, 2020 Posted February 10, 2020 The special character "Æ" breaks the option to jump to movies by letter on all devices I have tried except the web ui. Æon Flux was the movie that I had in collection that would always default jump to, no matter what letter I would attempt to jump to. I.E.Want to jump to, "M" movies? Click on M on the jump to, but it would always jump to Æon Flux. Quick fix is just renamed the movie to Aeon Flux, but still wanted to bring to attention. Devices I tried: Nvidia Shield, Fire Stick, Roku. Thanks, and as always, if this is a duplicate I do apologize, I did try searching for "Special characters" and "Æ" but nothing jumped out.

Luke 42079 Posted February 11, 2020 Posted February 11, 2020 We are looking into improving this so that the workaround isn't necessary. Thanks for reporting.
Luke 42079 Posted February 11, 2020 Posted February 11, 2020 @@Happy2Play i have this resolved as part of the sorting changes in 4.4, with the caveat though that it only applies to new installations.

Luke 42079 Posted February 11, 2020 Posted February 11, 2020 Yea. This one might actually be possible for existing installs, i'll have to look at that.

My guess would be with the database sort name changes in 4.4, it would require a clean/new install to reflect this update.
