Good morning, everyone,

Here I'm looking to install emby-server 4.1 on debian. When I follow the instructions on https://emby.media/linux-server.html that's what it tells me ( sorry it's in French):

Out through other tutorials I managed to install Emby-server 3.3.5.

Do you have an idea to help me I don't know where to look?

Thank you

It seems the deb was corrupted, your download probably got interrupted. Please uninstall, redownload the full deb and try installing again.

Thank you for your advice,

I have already downloaded in wget the.deb of ubuntu and debian and all have the same problem.

I even reinstalled debian, I even installed ubuntu 18.04 and nothing to do.

same if I download to my computer and transfer the.deb to debian

Can you try the stable release instead of the beta? Thanks.

You're getting a completely different error now, your package was indeed corrupted. You seem to have a process running as emby now. Did you per chance manually create an emby user? Please don't do that, we need that particular user for the emby server. If you didn't, then you already have a running emby-server, please visit localhost:8096, and if it still doesn't work, you'll have to kill the pid from the error log, 788 here, and try installing again.

Okay just for your information I made a blank 9.9 debian vm and yet I have an error with the.deb I uploaded earlier

Is that the same error as earlier?

how are you doing this?  This clearly states the user `emby` already exists which is causing the issues you're experiencing.

What do you mean? That I'm lying?

I installed a debian VM with nothing on it and I'm just installing Emby.server. And I have the mistake here before!

How could you think I'm talking nonsense?????

I preferred to spend time configuring emby than to take care of its installation!

In the meantime, it's not working!

Not implying anything, simply asking what steps you're using to install since systemd clearly things the emby user already exists, which is odd given what you're describing as your install process.  Stranger still that it's behaving the same on 2 different flavors.  Maybe try the docker version since it's self contained.

I have just installed the emby server 4.1.1.0 without any issues on my debian container...
Unfortunately, I cannot give a clear advice here, but from my point of view, your errors are not related to the installer itself.

let's try another thing:

1) Create a new / fresh VM with Debian 9

2) apt-get update
3) apt-get dist-upgrade

4) Then, create a download folder somewhere:
# mkdir /downloads

5) download the emby server applciation for debian
# wget https://github.com/MediaBrowser/Emby.Releases/releases/download/4.1.1.0/emby-server-deb_4.1.1.0_amd64.deb

6) Install the package again
# dpkg -i emby-server-deb_4.1.1.0_amd64.deb

this worked perfectly fine for me...

Thank you all and sorry for my reactions.

After his intervention of mastermind11, I had an awakening. And yes, it's all my fault.

To debian's installation when he asks to create a user I put...................emby................................. and that's it, when the server is installed he can do nothing because the user emby already exists ... it took me a long time to understand.

So now everything is settling in well!  But I still have a problem.

My installation is on proxmox in vm debian. On this Vm I mount a hard disk ( sdb1) in /media.

In debian (desktop or terminal) in media I have all the movies no worries.

But in emby when I click on /media/Films the path doesn't want to go.
When I force it by putting it manually I have no movies in the playlist.

I can't see what I've missed again. If you have any ideas.

Thank you again and sorry.

Hi, I am also using Proxmox, but I have set up a Container with Debian...
Can you show me, how the mount points are configured in your Proxmox configuration?

I can show you, how I did it...

In the Proxmox host, I have the conf file for my containers:
# nano /etc/pve/lxc/101.conf (lxc-101 is my emby server)

Within this file, I have the mountpoint for the emby server:

mp0: /volume2/media/,mp=/volume2/media

if you change this, it might be that you should shutdown the vm first, then change the configuration...

with "ls" I can now see the volume2/media
# ls /
bin  boot  dev  downloads  etc  home  lib  lib64  lost+found  media  mnt  opt  proc  root  run  sbin  srv  sys  tmp  usr  var  volume2

These is basically, what I have done on several other containers running on that host...
Finally, I have created another container, with nginx as a reverse proxy and installed my let's encrypt certificates within the nginx...
The nginx is then forwarding to emby or to other services, depending on the domain name :)

Thank you for your answer,

I didn't use an lxc container because I had the same file problem with it.

So I made a VM debian.

on proxmox I did:

qm set 102 -sata1 /dev/sda

I restart the VM and my sata1 is present under /dev/sdb1

So I do mount /dev/sdb1 /media

And now I have all my movies coming out.

I put in fstab:

/dev/sdb1 /medi user, auto noatime 0 0

I restart and install Emby-server

Do you see anything bad?

I don't understand I tried your method and yet emby refuses to access the file.... I must have missed an authorization or whatever.

Okay, I'm answering myself.

My folders are under the user and group: root:user

So I added the user emby to the "user" group and that's it!

Everything is working fine now, I have to ask questions about the functions.

THANK YOU ALL!!!
