Questions about Next Up on Nvidia Shield

I am half way through a 25 Ep TV show, it is a joke to watch it this way and would be as easy to just use VLC and make a playlist.

Mostly it does not offer Next up if I watch the show later on or next day and continue watching works about 80% of the time if I watch part of an Ep then turn off Nvidia Shield and say go a walk and come back to watch rest of it.

It will offer to play Next Ep on the current Ep in last 30-45 sec or so usually at credits but I rarely do so as I choose in the "STOP" On Screen Option  then delete that Ep from Library and turn off my Nvidia Shield and go and do something else.

This does not reflect in the Library view though once I have chosen to not view the Next Ep right after the previous one.,

I am also using the Beta builds and see all these fixes and new functions added many times per week in each changelog but I see little to no point if one of the most basic fundamental aspects is not working as it should.

The Libary then the player is the bread and butter (primary builds of any App like this) any additional needed but still basic settings or fancy settings are the icing on the cake and come secondary to the primary functions.

Hi there, can you please go over a specific series example and walk us through the steps that you did? thanks.

If you delete the last episode that you watch, then Emby will not know what the last episode was that you watched, which is why they're not showing in the Next Up list.

Keep the episodes and delete a few behind, or at the end of the season.

Every Series and I have explained it is the same as other in multple posts/threads.

It started to work for a few days months ago till a new update reverted it back and a MOD stated it used to work but due to requests by users they changed it so why do I need go into major details for something you admit you know about and intentually caused?

Not true in my case as for the short time it started to work as it should and as Plex does (I mentioned above), I delete the Ep each and every time since day using Emby as soon as its finished and did the same in Plex which for all its faults does work Library wise.

The two issues are no doubt one problem, the fact Next Up does not work properly most of the time and the fact shows never even watched yet are added to it again by I was told it was changed to work this way by request from users going by the MOD's reply to one of my posts/threads.

You'll have to wait for @@ebr to reply on this one.

I am willing to work with them but this is an old and much asked topic so should work by now.

I doubt I will be back on Plex unless they bring out a major change like say Plex 2.0, I now pay to use Emby even though I have no need for the prem features.

Plex had my money for 2 years but I lose heart at the end up and read about Emby from others with same feeling.

If the Mod is correct and it sued to work as "we" want and common sense would dictate but was changed due to user request then a simply switch to let us have it either way would have been better all round.

This is the issue, correct?

You delete all your episodes and, therefore, you never have the next one in Next Up?

I tested it last night after my post and the above peep's reply by keeping the just viewed Ep and it did work that time and has in past but other times it worked fully as it does in Plex even when I do delete each Ep after viewing.

As I said it totally worked for about 4-5 days and I though it had been fixed (both my main Next Up issues).

I have no need to keep an Ep after I view it and some users may be short on space added to its pain in the arse to browse to it to delete later and sometimes it will not delete or appears to but really is still there.

I was using the Emby plug-in for Kodi before 18 went final but it broke Emby with RC5 (may be fixed now) and it actually asked if you want to delete a file after viewing so it will be same when I am back on Kodi as it is all tied to the Server on my PC.

The main complaint is all shows added are in Next Up for no real reason added to this topic.

Common sence going by its very name/title says Next Up should only show the next Ep in a Series you have started to watch, it should be empty/not on screen if you have not watched any shows yet added to a new Emby install/library.

We used to do that and people said "I just installed Emby and have a bunch of content.  How come there is no Next Up feature?"

Hi.  The main issue here is that our system has always been designed as a personal media server for people who have and maintain their own content as opposed to a straight DVR where people just rotate through and delete everything after watching.

So, in your situation, our "Next Up" feature doesn't work very well because you never have the previous content upon which we make our decisions about what is next.  When you delete something in Emby, it is gone.  We don't remember the fact that you had it and watched it because that is just not the way 99% of our users have ever used the system.

That is just an explanation of why you (and the system) are struggling with this.

Thanks.

It does explain one issue but not the other you replied to in my above quote from other Next Up issue and why it did work for a few days a month or so back and why offer to delte file in the Kodi plug-in if it will cause headaches.

I really need to think if I can continue to use Emby if a basic function that makes sense to me and others in how it works does not work that way by design.

I did not see any figures using search for these topics before I even joined forum to post on them like a survey where it suggests 99% of you users said they kept files after viewing.

It cannot be hard to get it work if Plex did as there support is severely lacking but as I have said before the Library works for me outside of the odd glitch, the player and performance are what lets it down.

Latest episodes could be useful for you here since that will show the newly recorded one.

I do not have/use any live TV/record features on PC/Emby but if you mean like last night I added the latest Ep of The Walking dead then yes that is useful but the rest next to it are not.

The above show I was watching with 25Eps , I said I kept a few Eps without deleting after viewing and once again I did the same test again but this time it started to work in that all other shows disappeared from Next Up and only that show I was watching stayed in Next Up till the last Ep when I deleted the whole folder and the mess was back.

The thing is this basic function worked in Plex including a ongoing show that is added then watched then deleted once per week (the Shows folder is kept but Plex Library will ignore it while empty till it is filled by next week's Ep) so its not hard or impossible if you know what you are doing.

It's something we can look at improving. Thanks.
