4K HDR playback not working.

Using the latest verision of emby with your new media player, HDR files do not work and seem to xcode to SDR. Does your new player not support HDR yet?

Currently we don’t support HDR playback. I’m curious do you have an iOS device with HDR support? If so can you test their as well?

Thanks!

What do you mean? Besides the ATV 4K? I've played the same files on the ATV in another app and it direct-played HDR and all.

Are you guys working on HDR support?

Hi,

I am using now Emby with Kodi + Emby Plugin since 2 years. Emby on iOS since 6 months including transcoding and downloading.

I am really happy with that solution.

As I am thinking of replacing my Odroid with Libreelec by an Apple TV 4K I am looking to the Emby support on Apple TV.

So far it looks already great although there are2 major feature missing for me. I know development will take some time but at least it would be interesting if this features will be addressed in future. Second question is if there is a backlog or roadmap available, with all features which are planned?

My missing Features:

*) Support of more video codecs so that no transcoding is needed

*) HDR Support

Hi.  Your first point should already be implemented.  Specifically what codecs are you looking for?

Hi,

MKV. But stupid question, is MKV a codec at all and the H.264 or H.265 the embeded codec? I am not the expert, more a user :-)

Hi.  MKV is a container.  h264 is a video codec.

That combination should be direct playable now - depending on other factors.

How about H.265?

With an Apple TV 4K, yes.

Thanks. The Apple TV 4K is getting more and more interesting for me instead of my Odroid Liberelec Installation.

Just need to verify the many reported Issues with Amazon Prime and no 5.1 support anymore (only 2.0). If Amazon Prime would work I could finally move all my apps to one device (Emby, Netflix, Amazon Prime, several TV Stations).

If you want broad support of platforms and formats other than Apple, then Apple may not be your platform :).

If you are invested in the Apple ecosystem, then it is a good option.

Thanks. Yes, I have somehow a small EcoSystem with several iPhones and iPad, but no MAC so far :-)

But what I am searching is a realiable system with a good "Woman Acceptance Factor". I want to go away from too much technical platforms which needs a lot of support from my side.

After my research I found that either the Shield or the Apple could be the right solution but saw also that espacially with 4K + HDR the Apple TV is currently one of the biggest players.

One last Feature Question:

Apple TV should support now Lossy Atmos. Any plans to bring this to the Emby Apple TV App as well?

How does that work?

Amazon Prime on ATV? It is indeed 5.1 (the titles that have 5.1 and most that I watch do), and, it is *perfect* playback, stunning really. Works on both 4th and 5th gen. Been using the app since soon after it came out. It's my reference point, i.e., any app that doesn't have at least as good playback looks bad now.

I use Netflix one month a year on ATV, and it is also perfect playback.

I am not sure how I should understand your question? Basically my question is refering to MrMC App, which states that it is now supporting Lossy Atmos as well on the Apple TV.

It's something we can look into. Thanks.

Any progress on this ?

Can’t you use the profiles Doofus is using already for Emby Theater (MPV) for the MPV player core in the Emby Apple TV app ?

Posted

We are working on this, thanks. Regarding mpv profiles, yes possibly.

Any updates on this? I'm having the same strange "crushed gradient" issues as the OP on this thread on a 4K Apple TV—direct play via Emby 4.2.0.15 (installed in a FreeNAS 11.2 iocage via FreeBSD ports).

You won't have any peak detection, though. That is a new feature of opengl shaders. That isn't supported by Apple. But you should still be alright. I've actually disabled that on mine. You'll probably just want to use a good icc to map the color and luminance to the colorspace. The icc that I'm using (posted in the thread I made for mpv HDR tonemapping), I am using in both SDR and HDR environments. I've posted links to different icc color profiles. For Apple TV, I don't know how you can add them, yourself. Perhaps it would better if there was a drop down box in the app to select to use one? And then I'd suggest drop down boxes also for --target-prim and --target-trc, (if no icc is being used. An icc overrides those). And also --tone-mapping, --tone-mapping-param and --tone-mapping-desaturate.

Here's an interesting PR for the devs building mpv for apple.

Hi, in Plex, when you select to use the "Enhanced Media Player" uses the mpv player and it's works very well. Perhaps it would be useful to have an option to choose which player we want to use (internal apple tv or mpv), until the mpv player is mature enough. Not being able to play 4K HDR content is an important issue that must be overcome.
