HHTEX 2 Posted December 9, 2018 Posted December 9, 2018 I am trying to install the latest version on WHS and initially I was getting certificate errors in the even viewer. On a hunch I changed the date back a few years and now I get Error Downloading package. There may be a problem communicating with the update server. Please try again. System.Nullreferencexception Object reference not set to an instance of an object. If I set the date back to the current date I get an event viewer a configuration error for .net 2.0. I have already manually installed the .net 4.6.
Happy2Play 9783 Posted December 9, 2018 Posted December 9, 2018 You will need to Disable Internet Explorer Enhanced Security. https://emby.media/community/index.php?/topic/10553-cannot-install-server-or-mbtemc/ 2
HHTEX 2 Posted December 9, 2018 Author Posted December 9, 2018 (edited) I already did everything in that post except re-create the user profile. I also tried running the portable version and can't get that to run either. I appreciate the help. Edited December 9, 2018 by HHTEX
Luke 42081 Posted December 9, 2018 Posted December 9, 2018 What happens when you try to run the portable version?
HHTEX 2 Posted December 9, 2018 Author Posted December 9, 2018 What happens when you try to run the portable version? Nothing, it's really strange. Double click it and nothing comes up.
Luke 42081 Posted December 9, 2018 Posted December 9, 2018 What is the version of WHS? Is it fully up to date?
HHTEX 2 Posted December 9, 2018 Author Posted December 9, 2018 What is the version of WHS? Is it fully up to date? WHS 2011 with SP1
Luke 42081 Posted December 9, 2018 Posted December 9, 2018 Does windows event viewer contain any entries about it?
HHTEX 2 Posted December 9, 2018 Author Posted December 9, 2018 Does windows event viewer contain any entries about it? I just tried it and nothing comes up in the event viewer. If I change the date back 2014 I get the error popup: Error Downloading package. There may be a problem communicating with the update server. Please try again. System.Nullreferencexception Object reference not set to an instance of an object. But nothing in the event viewer.
Happy2Play 9783 Posted December 9, 2018 Posted December 9, 2018 I just installed Emby on a WHS2011 vm (disabled IESC for Administrator) without issue. OS was fully updated, downloaded installer from download page. During Emby install C++ 2015 installed
Luke 42081 Posted December 9, 2018 Posted December 9, 2018 Ok the error dialog needs to be improved, but the issue is that your machine is unable to reach https://api.github.com to determine which update to download. Is it possible you have something blocking access to that domain?
HHTEX 2 Posted December 10, 2018 Author Posted December 10, 2018 (edited) Ok the error dialog needs to be improved, but the issue is that your machine is unable to reach https://api.github.com to determine which update to download. Is it possible you have something blocking access to that domain? IESC is disabled for both admins and users. I checked the registry to be sure. On a whim I set the date and time back to today and I got an error in the event viewer. Certificate for local system with Thumbprint bb fa f3 bc 75 20 8d 51 b4 8f 5d 29 ca 41 ff 53 20 2e 14 e9 is about to expire or already expired. I also checked and I can ping api.github.com from the machine. Edited December 10, 2018 by HHTEX
Luke 42081 Posted December 10, 2018 Posted December 10, 2018 Ok then I would just bypass the installer and use the portable version. Thanks.
HHTEX 2 Posted December 10, 2018 Author Posted December 10, 2018 Finally got it to install. What I found was that windows update was broken and needed to be updated itself. Once windows update was fixed, then i was told I had 100+ updates that needed installation. Once those were done Emby installed. A little different question is there a requirement for a certain browser as firefox says forbidden while Chrome has no issues?
Luke 42081 Posted December 10, 2018 Posted December 10, 2018 Thanks for the feedback. Firefox is supported. Do you have a browser extension that might be causing that?
HHTEX 2 Posted December 10, 2018 Author Posted December 10, 2018 Figured it out Firefox didn't like server:8096 but would load using the ip_address:8096. Chrome and Opera had no issues with server:8096. It's up running and scanning. Thanks! I appreciate all the help.
