New to pvr..I just can't figure this out.

I bought the Hauppauge 1196 HVR 1250 Card for my server.

I have TWC Basic cable, no digital boxes.

 

My server runs Server 2012 R2. When I try to do channel searches with it, I get the crossbar not found fault using NextPVR and the WinTV 7 program.

 

 

I also have Windows 8,1 loaded on the same server. Wondering if it was a server edition problem, I booted into 8.1 to try NextPVR. I can get it to "scan" for channels in 8.1 but it all shows unknown and no channels are visible in Live TV.

 

 

 

If anyone can give me some basic setup information or tell me what I am doing wrong, I would greatly appreciate it.

The server could be a problem. Most of the tuners doesn't work that good on a server.

 

You can see your card in nextPvr? You selected the right country,... before you started scanning?

The problem on Windows 2008/2012 servers is they don't come with BDA drivers in the O/S that digital tuners needed. Hacks have found for this with internet searching.

 

As for scanning digital cable in the US and Canada, more and more there aren't any channels using clear QAM. The best bet is to enter you zip/postal code here https://www.silicondust.com/support/channels/

 

The encrypted and unencrypted channels pretty much all show as Unknown because the station name isn't typically available like they are in digital DVB
