Romesnil 0 Posted October 7, 2018 Posted October 7, 2018 Can someone confirm, that real time monitoring of library folder works on Synology? I enabled it in the library settings but doesn't seem to work! I run Emby version 3.5.3.0 on DSM 6.2-23739 Update 2 and with mono 5.8.0.108-11 from SynoCommunity.
Luke 42077 Posted October 7, 2018 Posted October 7, 2018 It really depends on what kind of storage you're importing into Emby. Where is your media stored?
solabc16 379 Posted October 7, 2018 Posted October 7, 2018 Hello @@Romesnil FYI, the Emby Server package is self-contained, you don't need any external packages. Did you install using the instructions under the Synology section here? https://emby.media/nas-server.html Best - James

Interwebz 0 Posted October 26, 2018 Posted October 26, 2018 I'm having the same issue and I have had it for a while. It is annoying the heck out of me. My real time monitoring has not worked since, I'm a bit uncertain of which release but I think it was 3.2.21. It worked fine prior to some release awhile ago, the one that crashed Emby frequently. It was suggested back then to uninstall unnecessary plugins and disable real time monitoring on your libraries which solved the Emby server crashes. I have since not been able to get it work again even though I have enabled the real time monitoring option on all of my libraries. I can see from the logs that my library is being monitored "Watching directory /volume1/media/movies". My setup is running on a DS918+ with Emby 3.5.3.0 and all files are stored locally on an ext4 volume. Any pointers would be appreciated. What are the odds that this might start to work again on the upcoming 3.6 release?
solabc16 379 Posted October 27, 2018 Posted October 27, 2018 Hello @@Interwebz There's an update available for your platform (3.5.3.0-16), if you haven't updated can you do so before running the diagnostics and send logs. Interwebz 0 Posted January 30, 2019 Posted January 30, 2019 (edited) How are you determining that it doesn't work? Hi Luke, I have disabled RTM on all other shares/libraries except TV-Shows to try to isolate the issue. I then added a new season with two new episodes to an existing show. They were not picked up by Emby under my library nor by the embyserver log, which I'm using to debug the issue. Problem is nothing shows up in the log when new episodes are physically added to the SMB shares running of the NAS. patje57 9 Posted January 30, 2019 Posted January 30, 2019 (edited) RTM works here fine on both a DS415play (3.5.3 and now 4.0.1) and DS218 (4.0.1). I store the media under /volume1/video/... The video folder is indexed by Synology's DSM indexing service, but i believe that shouldn't make a difference, not sure thou Edited January 30, 2019 by patje57

solabc16 379 Posted January 31, 2019 Posted January 31, 2019 Hello Thanks for the logs, there's nothing immediate jumping out. Is there a reason for adding four individual folders instead of just the root, when configuring your libraries? As a test, are you able to configure your library using... /volume1/media/tv-shows ...rather than... /volume1/media/tv-shows/hd /volume1/media/tv-shows/sd /volume1/media/tv-shows/4k /volume1/media/tv-shows/web Best - James
Interwebz 0 Posted January 31, 2019 Posted January 31, 2019 (edited) @solabc16 Reason being is that I sometimes put temp stuff in 'tv-shows' and don't want that stuff to be scanned. I'll update the library as per your suggestion and will give it a try. Thank you for taking a look at the logs that quick. Edit: This was a terrible move. This change messed up my TV-Show library completely. Plus, now I cannot manage access to the different folders per user anymore. I'm reverting to the old setup. Edited January 31, 2019 by Interwebz

Interwebz 0 Posted February 1, 2019 Posted February 1, 2019 (edited) What do you mean by old setup? Can you please attach the emby server log? thanks ! What I meant was that after I tried the suggestion from solabc16 my TV library got messed up, as if the scan did not process the subfolders in /volume1/meda/tv-shows/* correctly. I restored my previous TV show library setup and it's OK again. I'm PM:ing you the logs and a screenshot of how it looked after the update. Edited February 1, 2019 by Interwebz

Best - James Hi James, I posted the logs in post #15, were they not sufficient? I also PM:ed Luke my entire Emby log. I hope I managed to include you in the PM as well. I changed the following: /volume1/media/tv-shows/hd /volume1/media/tv-shows/sd /volume1/media/tv-shows/4k /volume1/media/tv-shows/web Where each of the above paths has a subfolder structure logic like this: */NameOfShow/Season.04/NameOfEpisode.mkv To your suggestion of just using this (I just updated the path in Emby and not the actual physical folders): /volume1/media/tv-shows/ Doing this caused weird issues during the library scan rendering a scenario I was not expecting. E.g. Emby tried to resolve folder "web" as a show. Hence I "rolled back" to my original setup, restoring my library. This obviously did not resolve the RTM issue but I'm back were I started. I hope this makes sense...
Luke 42077 Posted February 1, 2019 Posted February 1, 2019 Ok, when you update to 4.0 again we can re-evaluate. thanks.
Interwebz 0 Posted February 1, 2019 Posted February 1, 2019 Ok, when you update to 4.0 again we can re-evaluate. thanks. I am already on Emby version 4.0.1.0, I did not rollback to a previous version of Emby. I rolled back to my previous library settings, nothing else.
solabc16 379 Posted February 1, 2019 Posted February 1, 2019 (edited) Hello @@Interwebz Your logs in #15 are prior to the change requested in #16. This is still an important part of troubleshooting this, perhaps you can try with just one of the four sub-directories you currently have configured. There are default limits in the kernel that govern the maximum number of file watchers; however I couldn't see any of the telltale indications of that limit being hit in the logs. *** Edit : I’ll come back to this in the morning *** Best - James Edited February 1, 2019 by solabc16
Interwebz 0 Posted February 2, 2019 Posted February 2, 2019 (edited) Hi @@solabc16, It seems as if we are getting off the wrong fot or I am not making myself clear enough, my apologies. First, I really appreciate you taking the time to look at this as RTM is the only function/feature I have left to solve with my installation. Second, I did not try to imply that your suggestion f:ed up my library. I followed your suggestion and I merely stated what happened, it did not turn out as expected, that is all and there is no harm done as I "rolled back" that change which restored my TV-Show library to what it was before the change. Hopefully you can see what I mean with the unexpected result in the PM:ed screenshot. Instead of testing with my libraries I created a new library just for the sole purposes of testing. I do not wish to rescrape my entire TV library and manually updating the posters unless I know it will solve the challenges I have with RTM. It is a time consuming operation. Anyhow, the log now tells me it finds the episode added in the test library but it's not actually found in Emby front-end. I'm suspecting it might have something to do with the fact that the main show is under my main library. I just added one episode to the test library. I'll see what happens with a new test movie library. I'll report back once I have done that test. Update: TestMovie library was successful. Will do some more tests.
