Bert 49 Posted October 6, 2018 Posted October 6, 2018 I just received my new M.2 hard drive: https://www.rakuten.com/shop/adata/product/ASX8200NP-480GT-C/ For simplicity and housekeeping sake I will probably just do a clean windows install. My question is, seeing as there are two other standard sata SSD, how would you set it up? I assume OS and Emby on the new M.2 drive but what about transcoding, recording, etc? Currently I record to the extra SSD and MCE Buddy remux to a platter drive on my attached drive pool. I record a lot of OTA TV and have quite a variety of devices connect to this server both on and off site. Any advice would be appreciated as most of the point of this server is to maximize Emby.
Guest asrequested Posted October 6, 2018 Posted October 6, 2018 I've got my OS on an M.2, and transcode to another M.2. But you can use any SSD for transcoding.
Bert 49 Posted October 6, 2018 Author Posted October 6, 2018 Where do you keep your cache? I've been not saving the images to folders with the thought that in the cache on a SSD, they'd load faster.
Guest asrequested Posted October 6, 2018 Posted October 6, 2018 I keep mine in the media folders. Here's another discussion on the cache.
Bert 49 Posted October 6, 2018 Author Posted October 6, 2018 Yeah, but conversely here's one that suggests the opposite: https://emby.media/community/index.php?/topic/47027-emby-server-performance-optimization-suggestions/ I'd think the SSD would be quicker to pull especially as my movies are spread over multiple drives I guess it's a who you believe question.....
Guest asrequested Posted October 6, 2018 Posted October 6, 2018 SSDs have lower latency and no 'spin down'. It's all based on usage.
