Nvidia shield Direct play problems

Hi all.

I hope that some one out there can help me with an issue, that from what i can gather is something that a lot of people have.

I recently bought me a Nvidia Shield since i was suggested this device for 4K playback.

But the issue i have, is i can't get it to work via Direct play, here i found a post where some one had it fixed, but without any explanation on how he did it.

So thats why i now come to the site, to all the brains :)

I will start with my setup.

I have all my media in a Synology DS918+ where the path to the folders (movies and series) are as follows:

IP Address 192.168.1.30

I have the Emby server installed on my old NUC with IP 192.168.1.55

The Nvidia Shield has IP : 192.168.1.60

When running the setup on the Shield, it finds the Emby server fine. As soon as i come to the Native part i get the same problem as this post

It finds everything fine but as soon as i try to play something, it says it can't locate the file, and asks me to delete the path.

The path i have tried for the network credentials are the following:

  • \\Hells_Prison\Video\Movie
  • \\Hells_Prison\Movie
  • \\Hells_Prison
  • And also insted of Hells_Prison i have tried with the IP address 192.168.1.30

Now i have 2x NUC pc's and it works flawlessly there. In the Synology i have given access to the Shield (Marked in yellow) 45/55 are the 2 NUC's.

I have even tried to reset Kodi on my main PC (192.168.1.35) to set it up again. And i got it to work instantly.

So from all that i read there are some issues with Kodi on Android (called SPMC?? correct me if im wrong) and using Native.

But it works "fine" in Addon. I write "fine" because i have experienced some micro stuttering (which might be able to be fixed according to this post from poster Domg73) But thats another matter.

The

Is there something i'm missing, then just ask away!?

Please and Thank you for the help

Edit: I forgot to write that both the Shield, Kodi and emby is running the newest versions.

Try to set the maximum SMB protocol to SMB3.

Also read:

https://forum.kodi.tv/showthread.php?tid=314350

What would that do if i set it to SMB3?

Also might sound stupid of me, but i thought that

Native = NFS

Addon = SMB

Am i correct or wrong?

If im wrong how do i know when i run NFS or SMB?

Wrong, completely.

Nativ = smb

Addon = Plugin based method via http stream etc.

There are a view thread about accessing smb shares on Nvidia Shield/Android devices in the Kodi board.

Just read some of them.

I have only found posts where they failed, and it seems that it has something to do with one of the updates that did something!?

Then how do i play Emby over NFS, which in my understanding is better than SMB

Define "better" :).

Or, you could just use our Android TV app and not have to worry about any of this.

I seem to remember that NFS could handle larger files. And SMB was better at smaller files.

And since i've started to play 4K content, then i was aiming for NFS.

Well the reason i use Emby, is because of the sync there is from the server to the different players. So if i watch 2 episodes of a series in the living room, then i can continue from another room, another day from the latest episode. And i dont know of any other programs that does this. Not saying there isent one, just dont know about it :)

That functionality works with all of our apps.

The easiest way to get up and running is to use the EmbyCon addon which by default will always direct stream over http (no transcoding at all).

Is this something i can use for the Shield to?
