MediaEmby1968 89 Posted June 15 Posted June 15 @softworkz@Luke On December 9, 2025, I posted some screenshots of the server configuration. These screenshots showed text or sections of the configuration that, despite being translated, were not appearing in the correct translation. This occurred in version 4.9.1.90, and the issue persisted in the subsequent version, 4.9.3.0. Yesterday, it was updated to version 4.9.5.0, and the problem remains unresolved. Could you please tell me what is happening? It has been six months, and the problem persists.

MediaEmby1968 89 Posted June 15 Posted June 15 Hi @LukeI don't know if it received an update, but if it did, it was a while ago; at least the information in the Open Subtitles string shows the last update was 10 months ago.

That was the last time we changed the strings on the translation site. I published an update to opensubtitles a month or so ago using all of the latest strings at the time.
MediaEmby1968 89 Posted June 17 Posted June 17 @Luke Even though it's been a month, it's still the same... because it's not just the open subtitles section... the others are still the same.

roberclash222 0 Posted June 19 Posted June 19 I've noticed lately that the translation page is taking a long time to load.

That's right, it will work correctly in Mexican Spanish, but I translate it into Spanish from Spain, or European Spanish as some people outside of Europe call it. And it doesn't translate it into Spanish from Spain, or what you categorize simply as Spanish. If the solution is that I have to put it in Mexican Spanish... Why bother translating it into Spanish from Spain, or Argentina, or even the United States... if it already works with Mexican Spanish?

OK so when you select plain Spanish it's using es-ar in some cases. This will be resolved for the next release. Thanks.

matsushita 9 Posted October 5 Posted October 5 (edited) Hi, I’d like to help improve the Japanese translation for Emby. I audited the Japanese localization files included with Emby Server 4.11.0.5 Beta and tested the updated strings on a running server. The audit covers the server/web UI localization files and includes fixes for untranslated strings, mistranslations, inconsistent terminology, and some invisible formatting characters. I also verified several changes directly in the Web UI, for example: Home Screen → ホーム画面 Identify → 作品を識別 Stats for Nerds → 再生の詳細情報 Exit menu → 終了メニュー Side navigation menu → サイドメニュー Conversions → 変換 “Last ran {0}, taking {1}.” → 最終実行: {0}(所要時間: {1}) I have attached an audit package containing the updated Japanese JSON files and verification data. The package is intended as review/reference material rather than a request to bypass the official translation workflow. I understand that the official contribution path is translate.emby.media. Could you let me know the best way to submit these Japanese corrections there, or whether translator access needs to be granted first? One additional finding: some strings in the iOS app appear to use a separate localization resource from the server/web client. For example, after changing StatsForNerds on the server, the Web UI correctly shows 「再生の詳細情報」, while the iOS app still shows the older translation 「専門家のための統計情報」. Thanks! emby-ja-forum-4.11.0.5.zip Edited October 5 by matsushita

matsushita 9 Posted October 6 Posted October 6 Hi, I’ve finished a broad review and update of the Japanese translations across EmbyApps, EmbyClient, and EmbyServer, and uploaded the revised translations through Weblate. From the Japanese localization side, the work is now almost complete. I reviewed untranslated strings, inconsistent terminology, mistranslations, invisible characters, placeholders, and a number of technical strings, and also checked many of the changes against the actual UI where possible. There are only a few points where I would like confirmation from the developers before considering the Japanese translation fully complete: EmbyClient – aspect ratio / video scaling strings There are seven strings related to aspect ratio or video scaling that I could not locate in the current UI, so I could not confirm their actual behavior or the best Japanese wording. Examples include: Fit Window Cover Window Dynamic Fit Dynamic Cover Fill Stretched 1:1 Unscaled For now I left these untranslated rather than guessing from the names alone. Are these strings still used in any current Emby client? If so, could you tell me where they appear, or briefly describe the behavior of each mode? EmbyApps / AlexaCommands I intentionally did not translate the AlexaCommands component. Many of these strings appear to be Alexa utterances, intent phrases, or speech-model data rather than ordinary UI text. I was concerned that translating them like normal application strings could change the command model itself rather than simply localize its presentation. Should AlexaCommands be translated for Japanese at all, or is this component intended to remain in English unless a complete Japanese Alexa language model is supported? EmbyServer Core – source strings that may need confirmation I found a few places where the English source itself appears inconsistent: Subtitle font size The setting description says: Enter a value from 5 to 50 to enforce a specific font size but the validation message says: The font size needs to be a value from 5 to 80 Is the correct maximum 50 or 80? Subtitle margins The setting description says: Enter a value from 1 to 200 to override margins but the validation message says: The margin size needs to be a value from 0 to 200 Is the correct minimum 0 or 1? Closed captions One source string says: Options for EIA-607/EIA-708 captions which are used in ATSC broadcasts... Is EIA-607 intentional here? I wondered whether this was intended to be EIA-608/EIA-708. For the Japanese translation I kept the values and terminology exactly as written in the English source rather than trying to correct them on the translation side. Other than these points, the Japanese localization is essentially complete from my side. Thanks for making the translation resources available through Weblate. It made it possible to review not only the missing translations, but also terminology and consistency across the different Emby components. 1
matsushita 9 Posted October 7 Posted October 7 Hi, I’m happy to report that the Japanese translation on Emby Translate is now 100% complete for all currently available components. Over the past several days, I reviewed and updated the Japanese translations across: - EmbyApps - Emby.Client - EmbyServer - Shared / UIEssentials - Shared / Terminology This included not only filling untranslated strings, but also reviewing existing translations for consistency, terminology, placeholders, UI wording, and technical context. I also completed the Japanese AlexaCommands translation. Since AlexaCommands is not a normal UI resource, I treated it as a Japanese interaction model rather than doing a literal translation of the English utterances. The sentence order, particles, spoken expressions, and device-name pronunciations were adjusted for natural Japanese speech while keeping all internal keys, slots, AMAZON.* identifiers, placeholders, and invocationName unchanged. The Shared terminology glossary was also reviewed and aligned with the completed Japanese UI, so future translations should have a more consistent terminology base. At this point, Emby Translate shows Japanese as fully translated across all currently exposed components. There are still a few source-side items I would appreciate confirmation on: 1. Core subtitle font size The description says the valid range is 5–50, while the validation range appears to allow 5–80. 2. Core subtitle margin The description says 1–200, while the validation range appears to allow 0–200. 3. Closed-caption standard One source string refers to “EIA-607/EIA-708”. Is “EIA-607” intentional, or should this be “EIA-608”? 4. Alexa invocation name The Japanese AlexaCommands model currently keeps: `m. b. home` unchanged, consistent with the source and other locales. Please let me know if a different invocation name is expected for ja-JP. Everything else on the Japanese side is now translated and reviewed. Thank you for providing access to the translation system and for the additional contributor permissions. Best regards, 1
softworkz 5481 Posted October 7 Posted October 7 @matsushita - Wor, that's great. Thanks a lot for your contribution. Same to all other contributors, you are awesome!
matsushita 9 Posted October 12 Posted October 12 Hi, Following the completion of the Japanese translations on Emby Translate, I've started checking how the translations appear in the latest Emby Server Beta. I compared the Web UI using Japanese (ja) and Simplified Chinese (zh-Hans), both of which are fully translated in Weblate. I also performed a hard refresh (Ctrl + Shift + R) to rule out ordinary browser caching. I found several inconsistencies that may be worth investigating. 1. DLNA settings — Japanese-specific issue This is the most interesting finding. Japanese: "Enable DLNA Play To" remains in English. "Enable DLNA server" remains in English. "Default user" remains in English. Their descriptions are also displayed in English. Simplified Chinese: The same settings and descriptions are correctly displayed in Chinese. The corresponding Japanese translations already exist in the EmbyServer/DLNA component on Weblate. This suggests that the Japanese DLNA resources may not yet be included in the Beta build, or that the Japanese resource loading/fallback mechanism differs from Simplified Chinese. Could you confirm whether the latest Japanese DLNA translations are expected to be included in the current Beta? 2. Scheduled tasks — untranslated in both languages In both Japanese and Simplified Chinese, scheduled task names, categories, and descriptions remain in English. Examples: Vacuum Database Convert media Transfer media Download subtitles Scan Metadata Folder Refresh Guide However, surrounding UI elements, including the page title and last-run information, are localized. Are scheduled task names and descriptions currently exposed to the translation system, or are they supplied directly by the server in English? 3. Keyboard and remote control help — mixed languages The keyboard and remote control help page contains a mixture of localized and English text in both languages. Examples of untranslated strings: F8: toggle mute F9: volume down PageUp: Next chapter in video Channel up: +, Next channel (or next track if not playing live tv) search/find: launch app search function menu/info: show menu or info for selected content Some key names are localized, while neighboring instructions remain in English. Could these remaining descriptions be made available for translation? 4. Subtitle background color — "Transparent" The subtitle background color selector is mostly localized in both Japanese and Simplified Chinese. However, the "Transparent" option remains in English in both languages. I searched the Japanese EmbyApps translation project for "Transparent" but found no matching string. Could this option be exposed for translation? The expected Japanese translation would be "透明". 5. Display settings — untranslated selection options Some selection options remain in English in both languages, even though the surrounding setting labels are localized. Examples: Dark / Light Blue / Green / Pink / Purple / Red Theme presets such as Apple TV, Blue Radiance, Superman, and Windows Media Center also remain in English. I understand that preset names may intentionally remain unchanged, but I would appreciate clarification on whether ordinary color names and Dark/Light are expected to be localized. Summary The comparison suggests two different types of issues: Japanese-specific: DLNA settings are localized in Simplified Chinese but not in Japanese. Shared across languages: Scheduled tasks, keyboard instructions, "Transparent", and some display options remain untranslated. All currently exposed Japanese components show 100% translated status on Emby Translate, so I'm trying to distinguish between missing translation resources, resources not yet included in a release, and strings that are not currently exposed for localization. I can provide side-by-side screenshots for each case. Thank you for your continued work on Emby! 1
matsushita 9 Posted October 12 Posted October 12 Just to add the environment details I forgot to include in my original report: Emby Server: 4.11.0.7 Beta Server OS: Ubuntu 24.04.5 LTS Web browser: Brave on Windows Languages tested: Japanese (ja) and Simplified Chinese (zh-Hans) Cache check: Hard refresh using Ctrl + Shift + R All comparison screenshots were captured from the same server and browser environment, with only the display language changed. Sorry for leaving out these details in the original report. 1
