MKV lag/no sound

Recommended Posts

Around the time of the 3.2.7 update, my recordings started to malfunction. It takes a very long time to start playback and when it does start, there is no sound. If I browse to the file and use the Windows built in media player, it starts instantaneously but still no sound.

I found that if I turn off conversion to mkv in Emby Server everything works fine again. It's not a huge deal, but I figured I would report it. Server log is attached...let me know if you need anything else.

Thanks in advance

You should post the ffmpeg logs for the recordings that were converted

Can you share one of the videos? It looks like they recorded, correctly.

I had already deleted my test videos, but I created another and attached it. I have some more info, too...

While recording, there are three instances of ffmpeg maxing out my processor. The resulting mkv, besides having no sound, also exhibits some visual artifacts.

If it matters, Emby Server and Theater are running on a Windows 10 PC I built fairly recently. 7th gen i3, 8gb ddr4, nvme ssd.

Is there a way to roll back an Emby update? Then I could test if it really was the last update.

Thanks for your time.

I just tried again and it said, "Error You aren't permitted to upload this kind of file"

That's just fine, for me. What app are you using?

Emby Theater, then I tried the default Win10 Movies & TV app. However, after your last message I tried VLC and it has sound.

Which version of Theater? Store app or from the emby website?

Store app.

I just did some more testing:

Emby Theater takes about 2 minutes to start playing any recent mkv recorded by Emby Server, then there is no sound. If I play it through Emby in the browser, everything is fine.

Emby Theater plays older recorded MKVs just fine.

TS files work fine either way.

I have to head to bed for now, but hopefully that helps narrow the problem down.

I just tried in the store app, and it doesn't play, correctly. I suggest using the desktop app. It's much better. If you have any questions on config, I can help. But it should play your recordings, and pretty much anything else.

I'll try and figure out why the store app, doesn't like it.

I downloaded Emby Theater from the website and it plays. My Harmony remote seems to work fine the way I have it programmed too. My only problem is the UI was extremely laggy. I'll see if I can get that figured out tomorrow. Thanks for your help so far.

For what it's worth I would just record the raw stream without the on the fly mkv recording feature. Unfortunately that feature is something that's going to have to be dropped in the future for reasons such as this, just as soon as we have a replacement feature to convert after the recording has completed.

That's what I'm doing for now. I'll just have to keep a close eye on my NAS since the raw files are a fair amount bigger. Or, I can use it as an excuse to upgrade. Haha

Thanks for the responses, guys!

And keep using the desktop app. You'll have less issues.
