PrincessClevage 175 Posted January 5, 2018 Posted January 5, 2018 Well lol, I’m home now if anyone wants to play around with it with me Is your media on a network connected device? 1
OSBuckeyes4Life 12 Posted January 5, 2018 Author Posted January 5, 2018 So I have a Synology NAS DiskStation 1815+, in Emby I use the //server/movies and //server/tvshows.
Guest asrequested Posted January 5, 2018 Posted January 5, 2018 OK, try playing something, and then post the transcode logs. While explaining what settings you used and what you did.
Tur0k 148 Posted January 5, 2018 Posted January 5, 2018 I have an ancient AMD CPU compared to yours. I have no trouble with transcoding. I agree with @. there is likely some configuration on your system that is hosing things. I recommend: 1. checking the power efficiency settings I posted above. 2. disable UAC I believe that the on CPU GPU on Intels has to have an active output connected for quicksync to work. My Transcoding settings are as follows: Hardware acceleration: none Transcoding thread count: Auto Enable Throttling: yes Transcoding temporary path: Set to non system SSD drive audio boost when downmixing: 2 H264 encoding present H264 encoding preset: medium H264 encoding CRF: 23 Deinterlacing method: standard Allow subtitle extraction on the fly: yes the setting for adding your own distro for FFMPEG seems to be gone.
Guest asrequested Posted January 5, 2018 Posted January 5, 2018 You're also going to have the PhysX config, that you may need to disable. The Alienware may have their own hooks in that, beyond what Nvidia have in their driver settings. 1
PrincessClevage 175 Posted January 5, 2018 Posted January 5, 2018 (edited) So I have a Synology NAS DiskStation 1815+, in Emby I use the //server/movies and //server/tvshows. 1st step for troubleshooting is to rule out items so I would copy a known good media file to the htpc local disk (create a temp folder and add it to one of your library, renaming the file if needed) and then perform a rescan in Emby for the library you modified and then try and play this file on htpc, this should rule in or out the network path from htpc to NAS Edited January 5, 2018 by PrincessClevage 1

Here is what I did last night to see if I could resolve the issue. I copied your settings exactly. I also went into the BIOS and turned off Intel Speedstep and turned off UAC on the pc. I have an ancient AMD CPU compared to yours. I just restarted the NAS and I tried to run the movie a few times to get some logs that may help. The file that I am trying to play is Lethal Weapon Season 2 Episode 11 (In case that is captured in the logs). I let it try to connect for about 2 minutes. When I go into it, it just spins on a black screen and right away the Emby application on my phone becomes unresponsive. I can't see the menu or anything, just a black screen. But then wallah, 2 minutes later it started now. But it keeps repeating. It will play 5 seconds or so and repeat those 5 seconds over and over, then it will move on to the next 5 seconds or so and repeat that a few times. Then it just freezes at 30 seconds into the show and again the menu becomes unresponsive. The first time I connected in the logs was to the phone, that was around 8:43. I cancelled this connection at 8:47 Now I also tried this by going to it in a web browser (Internet Explorer) and the results I get are this. Login to Emby, playback not supported, so I moved over to Firefox at 8:48. At 8:49 I pressed play and it goes to the backdrop and plays just fine. Took about 5 seconds and it loaded. I watched it up until 2 minutes in and had no issues. So it appears to now be only with the iOS application of Emby. I have reinstalled it and its the same issue. I will attach the logs here in a few minutes so that maybe something that helps or sticks out in there. Debugging was on.
OSBuckeyes4Life 12 Posted January 5, 2018 Author Posted January 5, 2018 here are the logs. hopefully the timestamps help. logs.txt logs2.txt server logs.txt
Tur0k 148 Posted January 5, 2018 Posted January 5, 2018 (edited) I don't have permission to open the logs. For testing would you disable windows firewall and confirm if you are running a 3rd party firewall software? What type of antivirus software are you running? We need to rule out incompatibities in configuration between the new server and your NAS. For testing would you create a local video store on the Emby server and move 1 or 2 movies over to it? OSBuckeyes4Life 12 Posted January 5, 2018 Author Posted January 5, 2018 I'll have to take a look, I am just getting it setup so it is whatever is out of the box. Windows firewall is on, I can say that I had Windows firewall on my other computer and that is pretty basic so I don't think that is the issue. I am also not running any other FW protections. Remember this isn't just the EMBY NAS server, I had an HP doing this same thing. I can say that Emby Server is selected to be allowed through the FW.
OSBuckeyes4Life 12 Posted January 5, 2018 Author Posted January 5, 2018 I did some more testing on another phone, I can launch the video just fine on an Android Galaxy Note 8, but when I go to launch it on my iPhone X, it plays 5 seconds and then pauses. kinda will play again and pause, then repeats a few times, stops completely. That same video plays fine in a Browser as well, this appears to be an iOS thing, and at this point I don't think it is my computer.
Guest asrequested Posted January 5, 2018 Posted January 5, 2018 So on the Galaxy playing a video on your mobile data and not in your network, it plays correctly?
OSBuckeyes4Life 12 Posted January 5, 2018 Author Posted January 5, 2018 I mean I can stream the crap external network, this picture, and I wanted to try and max it out, but I had up to 7 videos playing at once. All tests are external, mobile network. Different network, he has Cerizon and I have AT&T but both unlimited data, so it’s not a network issue. But yes that video plays fine on his phone and not on my iPhone.
OSBuckeyes4Life 12 Posted January 5, 2018 Author Posted January 5, 2018 Can you open the attachments, why does it say Tur0k and I don't have access to open them. I posted the darn things. They are MY files!
Guest asrequested Posted January 5, 2018 Posted January 5, 2018 You're making wrong assumptions. I'm not suggesting a network issue. Your upload bandwidth from the server is likely very low, unless you have fiber. So when watching on your mobile, it will transcode to match the bandwidth. For testing, just use one video at a time. I'm confused to exactly what you're trying.
OSBuckeyes4Life 12 Posted January 5, 2018 Author Posted January 5, 2018 I was proving that it is not Windows firewall and that it is in-fact an issue with the iOS device. If it was Windows FW, I would not be able to get to it at all. Sorry got sidetracked. I was also just trying to see how many I could do on that CPU. just putting in a claim for bragging rights.
Guest asrequested Posted January 5, 2018 Posted January 5, 2018 Most Nvidia cards can only handle 2 transcodes, a few can handle 4. I'm not sure about your model. That's why I said your Intel is better. It can handle 10+, and does it better. So your issue is only with your Apple devices? It works with everything else?
Guest asrequested Posted January 5, 2018 Posted January 5, 2018 I have 500MB 500MB of what? Do you have a fiber internet?
OSBuckeyes4Life 12 Posted January 5, 2018 Author Posted January 5, 2018 (edited) Yeah, it looks like the changes that we made are working on Android and on my computer externally. So the device that I am now having issue with it the iPhone 10 X. It is also hit and miss, some work perfectly fine and some have the issue. Are you able to open the logs that I posted from this morning at 9:08 AM. That shows the issues with trying to stream from the iPhone X and the video not loading. I have 500 MB down, and my upload speed is around 300. Let me summarize all of this: I was having an issue with the Apple iPhone X playing anything at all. - It now plays hit and miss I was having issues with playing in my browser externally - This appears to now not be an issue and I can stream in a browser externally. Android I don't know if there was an issue - Android plays the videos above that iPhone X cannot. The computer changes have fixed the issue I was having with streaming Externally, but I am still seeing issues trying to play things on the iPhone X. These things play just fine on other devices. Guest asrequested Posted January 5, 2018 Posted January 5, 2018 Only the moderators and devs can open your logs, now. But as your issue now with your iPhone, you should post that in that forum. I'm glad we were able to resolve it in the other devices.
OSBuckeyes4Life 12 Posted January 5, 2018 Author Posted January 5, 2018 (edited) ok, thank you for all of the help, So if anyone buys an Alienware, here is what you will want to use for your settings to stream out. I recommend: 1. checking the power efficiency settings I posted above. 2. disable UAC I believe that the on CPU GPU on Intels has to have an active output connected for quicksync to work. Tur0k 148 Posted January 5, 2018 Posted January 5, 2018 (edited) Would you clarify if the iPhone X has trouble when connected externall on the public Internet, or through your home network? I ask about the firewall because windows vista and newer divides firewall rules into types. There are 3: 1. domain (only if connected to a domain). 2. private (this should be your home network). 3. public (guest networks when you are out and about. Every network you connection has to have a type associated with it. Every firewall rule has to be associated with a network type. Windows 10 prompts users when connecting to a new network as to whether to make the computer "discoverable on the network". When a user hits "no" the network type is set to public. If you don't have a rule that allows the Emby exe, opens inbound port 8096, opens inbound port 8920, and enables file and print sharing on the active network type it could biff up local network direct playing of Emby. OSBuckeyes4Life 12 Posted January 5, 2018 Author Posted January 5, 2018 Hey Tur0k, yes all three of those are on for my computer. But no matter what if that was the issue, I would not be able to even get to it. I have no issues connected over wi fi, loads in under a second, this is only an issue externally on the iPhone X - Seems others are having this issue as well. https://emby.media/c...t-play-content/. 1
