slaman 1 Posted December 6, 2017 Posted December 6, 2017 I am using Emby Server to manage my media library, and playback using Emby Web and/or Kodi. I have been using this set up for years... and recently, it stopped playing back anything. It would just show a black screen instead of the video. The logs were previously showing an odd Authentication error, so I installed the latest version of Emby Server from the website (3.2.50) as I was previously on 3.2.36. It looks like it's something related to Subtitles? It's happening for any TV show or movie I try to play. Help?
Luke 42083 Posted December 6, 2017 Posted December 6, 2017 Hi there, we're sorry to hear about this. Can you please discuss an example and attach the corresponding emby server log? thanks.
slaman 1 Posted December 6, 2017 Author Posted December 6, 2017 My apologies... I thought I had attached this log. I ended up finding a movie that worked fine, but you'll see the "error" in this log. server-63648111112 - update.txt
Luke 42083 Posted December 7, 2017 Posted December 7, 2017 @@slaman, try going into your emby user profile by clicking your user icon in the top right. then go into subtitle settings and set your subtitle mode to No Subtitles. What's happening is subtitles are selected by default. We're trying to extract subtitles on the fly from your video file and this process is taking a long time and causing playback to stall. Please let us know if this helps. Thanks !
slaman 1 Posted December 9, 2017 Author Posted December 9, 2017 It seems to have resolved after uninstalling and reinstalling Kodi. As a follow-up, in the latest version of Kodi, when I click a movie from the "Recent Movies" section of the home screen, I am not getting asked if I want to play trailers. If, however, I click "Movies" from the sidebar, and click a movie that way, the pop-up appears. Is it possible that where in the Kodi skin I play a movie from will determine whether I'll get prompted for the pop-up?
Luke 42083 Posted December 9, 2017 Posted December 9, 2017 Yea it's definitively possible. @@Angelblue05, do you have any insight on that? thanks !
Angelblue05 4132 Posted December 10, 2017 Posted December 10, 2017 (edited) Hum, no it's not normal. If it's detected as an emby item, then it should trigger the appropriate things like play trailers, etc, of course, as long as you are using add-on playback. Can you provide your Kodi log, testing both scenarios? https://emby.media/community/index.php?/topic/17599-how-to-report-a-problem/ Edited December 10, 2017 by Angelblue05
