mbc0 68 Posted November 6, 2017 Posted November 6, 2017 Hi, I am trying to find some information on how transoding works please? 1, Is there a way to let the server transcode a few mins in advance rather than the whole file in one go? 2, With the transcoding info below what does in this instance 5.7 Mbps mean? is that the rate it is transcoding or what it is transcoding to? 3, how does the cpu throttling work/decide how much cpu to use? Many Thanks
Dani_ 1 Posted November 6, 2017 Posted November 6, 2017 (edited) 1, Is there a way to let the server transcode a few mins in advance rather than the whole file in one go? - Why you would do that ? your System is fast enough too transcode and play video without problems. The FPS is the speed how fast you transcoding. That meens 50 Frame Per Second.(The most Movies have 24fps~) btw: there is a option in emby under transcoding for it too throttling. 2. With the transcoding info below what does in this instance 5.7 Mbps mean? is that the rate it is transcoding or what it is transcoding to? That means that you transcoding too 5.7 Mbps. It makes the file smaller or change the format but you know that the cache will take 5.7 mbps. That is important for outside connection because your connection will maybe not fast enough too send 10mbps that why it is needed too transcoding too a lower size. btw when your transcoding too a lower size you lose img quality. 3. how does the cpu throttling work/decide how much cpu to use? A CPU will never decide too throttling at work it will try too finish his work so quickly he can that means on heavy work he will take 100% BUT Emby can say the CPU that the cpu can stop his work when your lets say 10% ahead with transcoding. 4. I am trying to find some information on how transoding works please? System A can Play FileFormatA TheBrowser cant play FileFormatA but it can play FileFormatB Here comes Emby it change the FileFormatA to FileFormatB now the browser can play the file. or other example FileA takes 10MB per second A User is outside of his homenetwork his outside connection can only send 2MB per second but the User want too watch the FileA. Here comes Emby it trade quality for LowerFileSize (2MBPS) and send it too the User now he can watch it without problems. Edited November 6, 2017 by Dani_ 1
Guest asrequested Posted November 6, 2017 Posted November 6, 2017 This might help. https://emby.media/community/index.php?/topic/48799-direct-play-vs-direct-streaming-vs-transcoding/ 2
