Guest asrequested Posted November 6, 2017 Posted November 6, 2017 In windows explorer, in the folder settings choose to show full path in the address bar. Then under network, navigate to the folder, highlight the address bar. What does it say?
ebr 16182 Posted November 6, 2017 Posted November 6, 2017 See this is where I'm probably not getting it... Remember that emby server is running on the Synology, so when I add a library folder in server, it looks like "/volume1/anything/movies" because that's what emby server sees being on the Synology. It won't ever look quite like that from the windows PC... It will look like "nameofmysynologybox/anything/movies". And that is what the "Optional Network Path" is for on that same screen where you added the folders. Put the path as it is required by the client machines into that field.
Finallygreen 1 Posted November 6, 2017 Author Posted November 6, 2017 I'm not home to do the "show full path" test (I will this evening)... But I can tell you that all of the optional paths are nfs shares that point to the machine's ip. Those look like "nfs://192.168.xxx.xxx/volume1/anything/movies"
Finallygreen 1 Posted November 6, 2017 Author Posted November 6, 2017 If when I get home, I remove the nfs entries for the optional paths and place whatever the true full path looks like in Windows explorer, should that get the DVD's to play without transcoding to theater? And if so, will doing that wipe all of the meta data that's already been populated?
Guest asrequested Posted November 6, 2017 Posted November 6, 2017 The address you need to use is what shows in the explorer address bar.
Finallygreen 1 Posted November 7, 2017 Author Posted November 7, 2017 (edited) OK...made some progress, but still running into trouble So I got home and found the path that the local machine refers to my files as. It's essentially "\\nameofmysynologybox\anything\movies" (using the examples I gave before). I replaced the nfs share format I had in my optional network path with this and guess what? Same thing...I select a DVD, 2-3 minutes of spinning circle and then finally the video plays transcoded. BUT.... NOW, if I set the external player feature to point to PowerDVD, it DOES work (I'd tried this before in my troubleshooting and it wouldn't work). So....while there was clearly multiple issues happening here, the part where I'd set the network shares incorrectly seems to finally be resolved. As far as the use of Emby Theater on my Windows 10 PC, I may actually be happy with just offloading DVD and Bluray folders to PowerDVD. The reason I'm still frustrated at the fact that it's not working correctly (and, finally, seemingly no longer my fault haha) is that this means it will continue to transcode when I use Emby on my Nvidia Shield in the other room. I thank you for all the help up to this point, but would love any further suggestions on what is still going wrong... Edited November 7, 2017 by Finallygreen
Guest asrequested Posted November 7, 2017 Posted November 7, 2017 What happens if you play it in the web app? I know it will transcode, but does it start, quicker?
Finallygreen 1 Posted November 7, 2017 Author Posted November 7, 2017 What happens if you play it in the web app? I know it will transcode, but does it start, quicker? It begins playing back almost instantly....
Guest asrequested Posted November 7, 2017 Posted November 7, 2017 So this is only with Theater desktop? What about the store app? If it's only in the desktop app, set up logging and attach the mpv log. Here's how to set it up. https://emby.media/community/index.php?/topic/50975-how-to-enable-mpv-logging-for-theater/
