Live TV, Direct Playing, but see transcoded file

I have Xbox One emby app, when i play a live tv stream the emby server dashboard says i'm direct playing it. But i see a transcoded file get created and grow in size when i start the live tv stream..

I assume this has to do with play controls for live tv. So you can pause, rewind, ect. So my question is.

 

Is it direct playing if i don't hit pause or any other controls, or is it really always transcoading it.

 

(My emby app in xbox also says direct play)

Hi, yes it is related to pause and rewinding. Just because you see files in temp folder doesn't mean ffmpeg is being used. thanks.

Okay, but is it really direct playing from the HDHomerun? According to this post

it should be playing directly from the HDhomerun and not getting the server involved at all.

 

My thought is it always playbacks from the server due to the playback controls already mentioned.
