Looking at porting from plex

Hey all, this has most likely been asked many times, I am currently an annual member on plex, i have just found out that they did an offer last month for $75US for lifetime and because i already paid them $59US for 1 year i did not qualify for the email/offer. (my year ends in March 18 so i have a few months to find an alternative) 

 

I am VERY annoyed and no longer wish to support them. I have noticed that emby is a similar however its frustrating because i am trying to test if i can have the same transcoding as with plex i have bought plex on ios a couple of times for ipad(wifes) and iphone(son") and my ipad and i do not really want to buy the app 3 times to find that emby doesnt suit my requirements. 

 

is there a test account or similar for ios etc? 

 

playing for 1 min does not give me enough time to put the server under the best test environment.

 

i have considered paying for the month BUT i do NOT want to have it re-ocurring. 

 

i really would like to test this server setup BUT once bitten twice shy.

If you pay for one month, you should be able to cancel it before another payment is due.

 

There are quite a few Plexiles here already, so plenty of help available with any questions you have.

Thanks for the reply, i know i should be able to cancel i just was hoping there maybe an option for 1 month NON re-ocurring via an email link or web link to ensure that i wont be charged more. i did read a few peoples posts before posting this about being charged after cancelling or charged for a monthly after buying lifetime issues. and i just didnt want any issues. Also i really didnt want to pay $119 US then have a special come out for $79 like i have read about also. LOL

 

i will keep playing, i have now got all the metadata sorted on my librarys and just trying to test a few devices before i commit i really dont like the idea of buying to find out its not suitable for my needs. 

 

i will consider paying for a month later. time to look through the admin area and see what i can tinker with

any questions you have drop them here. i run both Emby and Plex side by side although Emby is my primary for everything. So any questions drop them here and i will attempt to answer them.

 

i know you mention transcoding is there anything in particular your wondering about? Emby and Plex transcode in different ways (or they used to not sure now) however i've never had issues with either of them transcoding my files some of them have a bitrate of 30Mb/s + transcoded down to 5Mb/s on the fly on a low power i3 build.

Take the month trial. That will give you the full experience. Also you can cancel straight away and you will still have the trial for the full month.

If you have paypal, just pay with paypal and then cancel the recurring payment.
