Remote Acces Guide for Kodi?

Hey all!

I was working on setting up a remote kodi installation, and I simply cannot get it to work. Kodi works great with Emby over the local network, but not at all otherwise. I have tried the basic steps of changing the local ip to the remote one in the Emby for Kodi settings, and while it seems as tho I can connect to the server, I am always getting missing from library notifications that I wouldn't if I were local.

My big issue is that the most up to date guide to do this is out of date and refers to fields which dont exist anymore, specifically defining a primary and alternate address. https://github.com/MediaBrowser/plugin.video.emby/wiki/Emby-for-kodi-settings

Any help would be appreciated!

Thanks, I will update the wiki page.

It should be automatically switched between your local and remote address. Could you provide your Kodi log when you start Kodi to see what the add-on is doing? Thanks.

Here are the two most recent logs where I booted, it tried to sync but couldnt, even tho Ive already configured credentials. And I also tried to play an episode with no success.

Thanks for posting your logs. I've remove the link to them. According to your logs, you are not using plugin paths, which is required to be able to play locally and remotely.

Go into the addon settings > sync options > change the playback mode to Addon. Press ok. Launch the Emby for Kodi add-on, reset your local database: Yes, (Yes) optional, No.

Let your content resync. When you are outside the network, you'll need to enable "play from http" in add-on settings > play options. I'll look to add a quick switch when it connects remotely, so you don't have to do it in the future.

Let me know how it goes.

Awesome! Good to go now. My goal is a fully portable kodi on a thumbdrive, so thank you for helping make that a reality!
