once again emby updated the server and the Android app gets corrupted

it seems every time the server gets updated the emby app which i purchased gets corrupted and i end up having to reset my kindle fire and reinstall the app to get it to work again

 

then i have to wait on luke to make it functional AGAIN

 

it seems all you guys care about are the damn emby premiere people, those of us who bought the earlier apps just have to deal with the issues that come due to not bothering to worry about being backward compatible

 

emby doesnt care about those who purchased the earlier apps, which should tell you that they also wont care about emby premiere when the next new version of emby comes out

 

BEWARE PEOPLE. YOU CAN ALWAYS TELL HOW HONEST OR IN THIS CASE DISHONEST PEOPLE ARE WHEN THEY DONT SUPPORT THE EARLIER VERSIONS JUST TO FORCE YOU TO BUY THE NEWER VERSION

That's just about the most ridiculous thing I've read in quite some time.  Did you write a whiny post to Bill Gates when Windows XP stopped being supported, too?  Old software eventually gets left behind, for reasons so obvious I'm not going to bother stating them.

 

If your app is that old, it sounds like you're pretty fortunate Luke even bothers to work out a fix.

I update the server and android app all the time and never had an issue that I needed to wait for @@Luke

 

Sounds like you have something corrupted in your server.

I've never had any issues like this either.  Must be something unique to your server.

All updates are eventually going to break all the old/legacy apps.  So you have a choice of stop updating your server as it may affect your old app or accept the server up the fixes issues for all the modern apps.

Just so you know - the app you purchased was written by a 3rd party developer and you paid him, not us.

 

When we developed a new app and he stopped supporting his, we decided the right thing to do was still give the people who had bought the app from the 3rd party dev our new app for free so that's what we do.  However, since the purchase you made went to someone else and we have no way of seeing that data (because it was someone else's account) we had to write some special systems to allow us to give you our app for free.

 

Some devices, under some circumstances, regenerate their device IDs and then we have to re-do our manual system to give you free access again.  It is you're resetting of your device that is probably causing this.

 

Finally, we are moving to a new system that actually goes through the store with a coupon code so that, once you do it that way, it should never have to be done again for that particular store account.  Edit: Sorry, you are on an Amazon device and that store doesn't have this capability.

Kind of a case of where looking out for a customer bites you. 

 

Seems that there would be a way to do a code for the Amazon Appstore as well...

this happens to me every time you updated the server the app i purchased for my kindle fire gets locked out i send email after email and no one does anything til i come here and complain, i bought the damn app and you always blame the prior developers... thats bull why dont you release a new app that those of us who bought the app right away can use without all this greif

 

its not the old app thats causing this issue its the constant updating the server that causes the problem.

ive done that several times and each time im told its because i bought the app from the prior developer so whenever you update the server it breaks my app

 

why cant you just provide the new app for the kindle so  this dont happen anymore

 

ive bought 3 apps one for windows 10 one for my ipad and one for my android kindle

 

this only happens in the kindle but it happens when ever the server gets updated

 

i also have the samsung smart tv app but that i didnt need to pay for

 

its just that i use the kindle in bed and then being disabled as i am, i cant watch my shows unless i get up on my wheelchair an go outside

 

i cant send you the log because everytime it happens it corrupts the kindle so i have to reset the damn thing to factory settings to get it to work then reinstall all my books and apps thats why its such a pain.......

 

its just the old app and luke said its because of the prior developer but that doesnt help me any

 

you guys are the ones locking me out

I realise this is tangential to your main issue, but if the frequent server updates are annoying you why not turn off auto-update for the server? Then you could manually update the server every now and again when you are up to dealing with any hassles. Just a thought.

 

(Worth noting though that after manually selecting 'update server' auto-update will be turned on again, so need to turn it off after each manual server update)

sorry ebr but this is wrong, the problem happens when i get notified that emby server has updated, then it corrupts my kindle fire, It becomes unusable, so i have NO CHOICE but to reset my kindle to factory settings, reinstall 5000 books and all my apps

 

its the updating of the server that Starts the cycle

 

I sent my log files the first time this happened, and yes I know you did not develop the App I bought. but even when I try to update the app from the google play store it wont install on the kindle fire. it gives me the dreaded parsing error

 

trust me ive been through this at least 20 times

I understand that is your perception, but the root cause is the Android Device ID changing. It seems like for your device there is just no way to prevent that from happening. I can promise that even if you stop updating the server, the Android Device ID is still going to change at some point and you will have to go through the process again.

Google Play and Amazon are different things. Yes they are both based on Android but they have their own unique stores. We publish separate versions to Google Play and Amazon, therefore you cannot just take the apk from a Google device and install it on an Amazon device. You need to install using the app store. Thanks !

right here the first time it occurred. luke was kind enough to look into it and he told me to send him the log files and he informed me that it was due to the previous developer

 

Ive just become resighed to the fact that periodically i have no choice but to factory reset my kindle in order to use it

I don't understand why a simple update of the server would appear to "corrupt" your Kindle and I've never heard of that happening to any other person.  So that is what needs to be gotten to the bottom of.

 

The issue with the app validation is just a side effect of you resetting your device.

yes i discovered that, but it just shows ive tried everything i can think of to rectify the issue

 

 I am disabled so i only use my kindle when im in bed and out of my wheelchair for the night. i have the app for ipad, which i bought.....no issues i bought both apps from the windows store (ember and emby smart player) no issues. i also have emby theatre. no issues the only place i have the corruption issue is the kindle fire hdx. why i dont know. it happens even when i update from the amazon store

guys you dont understand....what happens is the server updates, i open emby on my fire, it freezes. even when i force shut down, when i restart, it goes right back to the frozen emby screen i cant even open a book or any other app. its like its frozen in emby. at that point the only thing i can do is to go into fast boot and reset the kindle. its the only choice.otherwise the kindle is a glorified paperweight

 

when you reactivate me it works fine, until the next time the server updates, then the cycle starts again.....could the kindle itself add something that when the server updates, just disappears? and then you add it back when you reactivate me? is that even possible

Ok, so then what we should do is try to help you with the freezing so that you don't need to reset your kindle.
