smartaxel 15 Posted February 28, 2017 Posted February 28, 2017 (edited) HI guys.. Please help me here. I am running Windows 7, i5 processor, and have lots of drive space avail. I updated Emby Server to the latest version about 2 minutes ago. I use Rokus, some of which are hard wired, some wireless. The one right now, is a Roku 2 I have two major problems: 1. I dont believe Emby is recording when it should. I have the T V series "Humans" set to record. While it recorded the first two, it didnt record lastnights. When I look at the guide, it has that series set to record, yet it didnt. 2. I can't play back any of my recently recorded shows. I have tried Both the new Beta Roku player and the old one. When I click the show and choose "play" it displays a black screen with the episode name and a bar saying "retrieving" that is almost halfway, and it just sits there. Eventually it times out. Some shows will play, mostly the older shows I recorded when I first got Emby. It seems any newer ones wont play. "Garage squad" - "A Camaro fit for a wedding" is one example, as is"Martha and Snoops Potluck Dinner Party" - "Something Fishy". I was trying to watch them around 5:28pm. (Don't judge my peculiar taste in TV.LOL) 3. Finally in the Emby for Roku Preview, live TV guide, the higher channels display "no program information" and I cannot tune to them. If I use the old Emby for Roku app, I can go directly to those channels and view them. An example channel is 212 - History. I love the new channel guide in the beta Roku Ap, but it wont let me tune to any of these higher numbered channels (many are the HD Stations)so I tend to stick with the older App. I'm attaching log files that hopefully show some of the issues. If you could assist, that'd be great. Serverlog.txt.txt TrsnscodeLog.txt.txt Edited February 28, 2017 by smartaxel
ebr 16176 Posted March 1, 2017 Posted March 1, 2017 In the new preview app, there is an "All Channels" view. What happens if you find those channels in there and tune to them? Do they happen to show up twice?
smartaxel 15 Posted March 1, 2017 Author Posted March 1, 2017 I didnt even see the "all channels" view. It's a shame it's not up top near the "guide" button. I just checked. Yes, it shows up twice, but that's OK. Comcast cable has it on two channels, one SD and one HD. Maybe the guide just needs to be changed to show the same programming for both channels? Or, perhaps setting it so if you click on that channel in the guide, it just goes to the channel anyway, even though there isn't any show listed to it?
ebr 16176 Posted March 1, 2017 Posted March 1, 2017 Okay, this is an issue in the server/guide data. You can see other posts out here on two different channels and the same guide data. If you find the version of the channel in the guide that shows the data, you should be able to tune to it there.
smartaxel 15 Posted March 1, 2017 Author Posted March 1, 2017 Thanks. I will look for the other posts. Ideally, the guide should show the channel data for both channels since they are separate channels. If I want to see the "HD" channel, It'd be better if I could just click that channel, versus having to either tune to the SD one that has programming listed, or, go to the bottom for the "all channels." On my TVs, the SD channels look really grainy. Is there no way to just make it tune the channel from the guide if it doesn't know what's supposed to be playing? Like on Tablo, if you click the left side for the channel itself, it just goes and tunes there. Do you have any idea why it can't play back my recordings or, why it's not even recording all the shows its supposed to? Thanks!
ebr 16176 Posted March 1, 2017 Posted March 1, 2017 Is there no way to just make it tune the channel from the guide if it doesn't know what's supposed to be playing? That is exactly what the app does so if there is an issue with that it has to be with the data coming from the server. I know there were issues with this being talked about at the server end.
ebr 16176 Posted March 1, 2017 Posted March 1, 2017 You might try the server Beta version: https://emby.media/community/index.php?/topic/44799-bug-guide-listings/?p=426579
smartaxel 15 Posted March 2, 2017 Author Posted March 2, 2017 (edited) OK, I downloaded the Beta, but still canot play the pre recorded videos. "Garage Squad, 63 Corvette". When I try to play it, emby Roku beta gives me "Video Error. An unexpected proble (but not server timeout or HTTP error) has been detected". I"m attaching the logs below. If I goto the file browser, I can navigate to the file directly and play it in windows on the server itself. I removed the Guide login, and re added it. in the new Private Roku channel, The channel lineup is a little odd now. Instead of being numerical order.. like 1 2...38 39 40.....200, it's now 18 20 22 223 224 225 226 227. A whole bunch of channels are now missing (most of the 100s) 143 for example. It's getting a little strange. Is it trying to guess which channels are HD and display them instead of the SD versions? smartaxel 15 Posted March 2, 2017 Author Posted March 2, 2017 (edited) Now having worse issues. I was watching live TV via Roku 2 and the beta ap. The TV snhow started locking up and going to black screen so I logged into the windows server. The hard disk usage was at 100 percent on my c drive. "MediaBrowser.ServerApplic." was the cause, writing 4,591,205 B/sec, but barely any reads. I was streaming an HD channel on the Roku 2 using the HDHome Run prime. Hard drive was at 89-100 percent and the show kept pausing. I switched to an SD version, thinking maybe it was transcoding, and the disk usage went down to about 80 percent. Shortly after, it seems Emby just shut itself off. When I looked in Task manager, the MediaBrowser was no longer running and all the Rokus just stopped playing anything . I restarted the Emby computer, and couldn't load TV shows for a while. After a few minutes, it started working again. Hard drive usage went back to normal 2 percent of so. This is the new, Beta version of Emby Windows server. I'm not sure what's causing this.. The PC is an i7, and it's sole use is Emby. There's no (known) malware etc, and this device just serves as my emby DVR.. nothing else running. I got another log file, and I think it shows all kinda of exceptions being thrown. It's attached here. Hopefully it's helpful. I really like Emby overall, but it seems like it's really buggy lately? Unless I'm doing something wrong here? Between the guide not working, then the DVR not recording my shows somewhat randomly, then not being able to view latest previously recorded shows at all on the Roku, then 100 percent hard drive usage by "mediabrowner" and emby basically dying, I"m not quite sure what to think. Is there a stable release that just "works"? Or is there something you can see in these logs that can show what's wrong here? Thanks ServerKindaDied.txt.txt Edited March 2, 2017 by smartaxel
Luke 42078 Posted March 2, 2017 Posted March 2, 2017 In your schedules direct setup it appears you have not selected a listing and that will definitely cause recordings to not happen.
smartaxel 15 Posted March 2, 2017 Author Posted March 2, 2017 I just verified. . Its there. Country, Zip, Lineup are all populated. I don't think it would even let me save without populating those areas. i hit save again anyway. is there some other area besides where I just checked? Anny clue why existing recordings arent playable on Roku?
ebr 16176 Posted March 2, 2017 Posted March 2, 2017 Can you please turn on the debug option in the settings for the Roku app then try and play one and then send the log from the home screen?
smartaxel 15 Posted March 2, 2017 Author Posted March 2, 2017 Luke, they played directly off the server, and I tried using the Windows app and it played there also. It was choppy on the windows box, but it could have been the wireless signal. I didn't look to far into it
smartaxel 15 Posted March 3, 2017 Author Posted March 3, 2017 (edited) ebr, The log is attached. I.m not sure what you meant by home screen. I didi the regular server log, but had logging on on the Roku I went to the same show, garage squad, Corvette episode. I also updated to the latest version of server. I posted the whole lig, but here's the stuff I believe you'd be looking for: User-Agent: Microsoft-Windows/10.0 UPnP/1.02017-03-02 20:02:23.8289 Info HttpServer: HTTP Response 200 to 192.168.111.12. smartaxel 15 Posted March 3, 2017 Author Posted March 3, 2017 (edited) OK guys..another problem. I was watching live TV (Impractical jokers) with the Emby Preview Roku app as I was pulling log files for you. As I logged out of my RDP session, the live Roku stream just just locked up in the middle of the show. I went back to guide, and nothing was there either. I RDPd back into the server and saw that the Emby service died. No idea why. I attached theemby logs below. I then went into Windows app logs and see one problem abut the exact time Emby died. I pasted it below: Log Name: ApplicationSource: Microsoft-Windows-User Profiles ServiceDate: 3/2/2017 8:42:59 PMEvent ID: 1530Task Category: NoneLevel: WarningKeywords: User: SYSTEMComputer: DVRDescription:Windows detected your registry file is still in use by other applications or services. ebr 16176 Posted March 3, 2017 Posted March 3, 2017 In the Roku app go to settings (* from home screen then select "Settings") scroll to the bottom and turn on "Debug Options" now go try and play your problem item after it doesn't play or you get the error or whatever, return to the home screen and scroll to the bottom select "Send Log" then come here and tell me what time you did that, what you tried to play and the name of the Emby server. Thanks.
speechles 2055 Posted March 3, 2017 Posted March 3, 2017 @@smartaxel This happens when you use the same username to log in with for both. When you logon to use emby, use a different user than when you RDP into that box. What happens is, if both usernames are same, it will assume when one disconnects to disconnect both. To prevent this, when you RDP use a different username than the already logged in user running emby server uses. Sent from my Nexus 7 using Tapatalk
smartaxel 15 Posted March 4, 2017 Author Posted March 4, 2017 @@ebr, OK, I sent the log. 7:38pm today. The Server is "DVR" and the Show is "Garage Squad" with the episode being "corvette". Thanks!
smartaxel 15 Posted March 4, 2017 Author Posted March 4, 2017 @speechless, Thanks! I have emby set up as a service, so I wouldn't have thought that would affect it. I will try what you suggest.

Unfortunately, we didn't learn much. The video player simply cannot play the stream it is being fed. If this same item plays with the old app, can you please do that and then post both transcode logs for comparison?
smartaxel 15 Posted March 4, 2017 Author Posted March 4, 2017 @@ebr. This seems to be a bit sporatic too. It recorded Humans Friday night, and that doesn't play on Roku either. Same exact problem. MacGyver, however, does play. They were recorded just days apart I did try to play the same recordings on the old Roku app and they do not play their either. I do not see a logging setting on the first version of the Emby Roku app to log with. I looked under "settings". I'm not sure if I just just blow out this installation, delete everything, and start fresh?
speechles 2055 Posted March 4, 2017 Posted March 4, 2017 @@smartaxel what about this app on your roku? On the items detail screen, press the "more" button and choose a forced play method. Obviously it wont play using auto-detect, but does it play using "force directstream" or "force transcode"? Sent from my Nexus 7 using Tapatalk
smartaxel 15 Posted March 4, 2017 Author Posted March 4, 2017 @@speechles, I just downloaded it. Nope, it won't play those videos by either force directstream or transcode. (Auto either..). Thanks though.
