DTS Audio Tracks Transcoding

Server Version 3.0.8400.0 (runs on Unraid 6.2.2 Docker)

Nvidia Shield TV (6.0 SW ver 3.3)

Android TV Beta (1.2.70g)

Late last night I started noticing that when I play a DTS movie direct from my Emby server, the audio track is transcoding (instead of playing Direct).   This seems to be happening for every movie I have that is DTS or DTS-HD, not just 1 or 2 movies.    I am unsure if this is related to the recent Nvidia Shield TV 3.3 update last Friday (10/28) or the recent version of the ATV client (1.2.70g).    I have attached logs (server and 4 different movie transcode logs) for your review.

Any ideas?

Do you have the option to bitstream DTS enabled?

Can you send me a log from the app when you play one of these please?

I may confirm, that it's not the server - an hour ago I was straming DTS movie to Raspberry Pi Kodi and my soundbar showed DTS (so it was passed untouched).

I have server 3.0.8400.0 for Synology, and Emby for Kodi 2.3.4

Ebr,

Yes I do have the Bitstream DTS audio selected in options.   I just updated to the latest beta (1.2.71g), same issue as before (transcoding audio).    I have 'sent the logs' via the app to you.

Thanks.

Each of these items only have a single ref frame, correct?

I'm streaming to Chromecast and Emby is no longer converting dts to Dolby digital anymore. I don't see a dts bitstreaming option. Where is this located?

Ebr, here is an update to this issue.    Upgraded to the latest server here tonight (.8500) and using the latest beta ATV client (1.2.71g), I experience the same problem.  After some additional testing, any movie (MKV) that I play (Dolby Digital or DTS) from the Emby server will transcode only the audio (video plays direct).   What is interesting, RecordedTV files (MKV - preserve original audio) plays both the audio and video direct.

I opted out of the beta program, and installed the stable version of 1.2.69g.      Both DTS & Dolby Digital movies play direct (both audio & video).   This has to be an issue with the latest ATV beta client.     Within the Emby app I have sent logs after running 1.2.71g and also again after I removed and re-installed 1.2.69g.    Attached is the server log as well.

Thanks.

I'm pretty sure that is the issue.  For a long time we have been forcing a transcode of h.264 video with only one ref frame because several people reported that they did not decode properly on the Android TV platform.  In the last official release we relaxed that restriction and, again, had people report that some of their items would not play properly.

So, we have put that restriction back.  Until such time as we can figure out how to identify exactly which items will work and which won't, we have to err on the side of the item actually playing.

I will try something in the next beta to see if we can catch both situations and not cause a lot of problems in other areas.

Have you tried this with the latest beta (.72)?

Posted (edited)

Tried the latest update (.72) today and that has resolved the audio transcoding issues (for DTS & Dolby Digital).

Thank you!

Hola, bienvenido! Emby no utiliza muchos recursos tampoco.

Windows:% appdata% \ Emby-Server \ logs
