robtperk 0 Posted June 15, 2016 Posted June 15, 2016 Unless you happen to have the HDHomerun tuner, you seem to be out of luck. I have a Hauppauge HR 2250 tuner card working with WinTV 8, but was hoping Emby through Roku would offer a better front-end. Why does Emby only support these tuners? Is there no way they could check for tuners installed on a computer and have the code in their software to link? There can't be that many tuners out there.
Spaceboy 2573 Posted June 15, 2016 Posted June 15, 2016 you need an external service. check out nextpvr, tvheadend, dvblink, mediaportal etc. these have plugins for emby 1
Luke 42085 Posted June 15, 2016 Posted June 15, 2016 To answer why we don't support it natively without using a plugin, it's because the HDHR's have newer and friendlier ways of talking to them. Degree of difficulty is much higher with older tuners. We may eventually get to that, but for now we've chosen not to.
Scott D 69 Posted June 15, 2016 Posted June 15, 2016 Spaceboy is right. If you add the external service, it is quite easy to get live tv from a Hauppauge. I have had great luck with the 950Q and the newer WinTV-dualHD. I have both installed on my server and have a total of 3 tuners available to my users. Each can be watching something different with no issues. I haven't played with recording or scheduling recordings much, but I know it works. I am using the WinTV 8, NextPVR 3.6.6 and the Emby Plugin. If I can assist in any way, let me know. 1

Could Emby talk to some of these external services through dlna?
Luke 42085 Posted June 15, 2016 Posted June 15, 2016 In theory yes but it still puts a dependency on external software which is one of the main goals of the built-in live tv to remove
Scott D 69 Posted June 15, 2016 Posted June 15, 2016 Running down another path, but similar topic. Is there any combination of front ends, back ends, plug ins, etc. that would allow for the use of a Slingbox (350)? Brief description of request: I have a cabin located within a no OTA area and cable is way over priced for the $*&% they provide for the limited amount of time spent there. As stated earlier, I use the Hauppauge to stream live OTA tv from my home. Works great. But, I also have a SlingBox available that would allow me access to my home's cable service. Currently, I have to have multiple devices to play Emby (Roku) and SlingBox (WDTV Live). I truly enjoy the Emby interface and would love to have one point of entry. If anyone is running something similar, your input would be greatly appreciated.

I was just wondering if using dlna might solve some of the issues with external services by giving Emby more media info about the streams and recordings Edited June 15, 2016 by Spaceboy
