Howdy everyone!

Long time user :)

I do enjoy the Roku app a lot, and it is pretty much how I consume all my media.

I'm just curious to know, what's on the roadmap for the Roku app? Any big changes, features, etc to look forward too? Not asking for a date or a rush, just curiosity caused me to post.

Thank you everyone for your hard work!

Hi, the main thing we are going to be doing is taking advantage of new roku sdk features that will allow for more modern layouts. Then we have some other feature catch-up to do with other apps, especially live tv, but in other areas as well.

awesome! glad to hear that it sounds like you guys are working on something new :) Will I be able to test a beta of it soon?

What kind of features are you after? What do you feel is missing from the present app? What types of media do you find missing features in? If you could make the app do something it doesnt, what would that be? If you were writing it what are some must-have features that would interest you the most?

Honestly, I think the only things I have on request would be a fresher UI if possible, and a little more speed. Those are really it to be honest. I know I'm not the most creative when it comes to requests :)

A more straight-forward question, which app are you using on the roku? Standard, beta or blueneon?

Just the standard app right now :)

As far as, something more feature filled..

This gets lost in the sticky portion of the forum and often over looked. I am never sure who is aware this app exists. This is my contribution to roku development. There are more features in this app since it is community driven.

I wish scene graph was easier to write. It is difficult to adjust to I must say. Program flow is much more efficient and things seem to move faster, but it is harder having to write code within brightscript blocks within xml. This makes it easy to design the screens, quickly. It is just harder to design interactions inside scene graph than inside stock/custom screens (roscreen vs roSGscreen).

Isn't that just "Next Up"?

You can already "play from here":

i mean, when i go into my series, to a particular season, i would like the first unplayed episode to be highlighted.  as it is now, it starts at the first ep of that season.

Right, but, the only reason you ever need that was to play the next up episode and now we have a much quicker way to do that.  So the value of that behavior would be greatly diminished for most people.

New version: v3.50

* Fix jump to newest episode aka next up functionality in TV library and "go to series"

You can already do this. Dont use tapatalk to open the threads. It cant thread to #anchor correctly. See my post above with the 2 links and click them in a browser. The top one shows how continuous play works on the roku.

i installed the other version.  this thread was about what people wanted in the regular "new version" of the app (scene graph).  these options aren't in the regular app, so no, they aren't "fixed" or available to those of us that prefer that over the neon app.  that's why i listed them as things i wanted.

Odd.. it should have auto-updated.. does the app have an emby logo or mediabrowser?

As of right now there are two apps for roku:

The official, which has 3 flavors: stable and beta available on the roku store. For bleeding edge, there is a zip you can use on github which allows sideloading and making your own changes to.

The blueneon, this has 4 flavors: a full version and a simple version available on the roku store. For bleeding edge, there is a zip for both full and simple where you can sideload and make changes.

The blueneon app is fully community driven. This means you request a feature and shortly after its there. There have been many many users which have contributed ideas and suggestions they wanted. This has made the preferences section grow very large. So most of what you already want the official app to do, is likely, already in the blue neon app.

The official app is meant to stay simple. The blueneon roku store links are not public. The blueneon apps are on private roku store links. This was done to remove confusion.

Once users visit the forum they can see the blueneon app exists and try it out. Its not for everyone, it is quite advanced and allows users full control of playback.

Note:

Right now making suggestions is hard for scene graph since there is no layout shown yet. How should the homescreen look? With scene graph the only limit to how screens look visually is imagination.

It would be cool to see mockups of how people would design a new layout. This keeps the community involved the same way the logo contest was when rebranding as emby.

Anybody got any mockups they wish were real?

right, i've used the neon app before and it's fine, obviously nothing wrong with it and more featured than the original.  i just wasn't aware those options weren't available in that app and only available in the neon app.

i was originally responding to this:

again, i wasn't aware they were available and i'm assuming they will be in the scene graph version as well.

as far as the new design, i don't really have any suggestions other than i like the layout of the apple tv version where you are presented with your library first and not directed to "next up", "suggested", etc first (like the web app).  that's just me though.  that's how i've been using mb for years.  prob not the preference of most others.

The "continuous play" does exist in both. Officially and blueneon'y. ;)

The other, the use of nextup to "jump" to the correct episode was a blueneon only feature, until now:

https://github.com/MediaBrowser/Emby.Roku/pull/145

Offcially @@Luke can add this and make this work for everyone regardless of app. Enjoy. :)
